Single & being victim to matchmakers

lighthearted

I am a contented Singleton but often get offers of matchmaking. This was today’s offering.....

You should meet my friend Brian, he’s really nice. He’s married but he doesn’t like his wife. He’s seen you around and would be happy to visit you for tea and fun (!!!!!!)

Ummmmm no, no & no. Said friend was bemused why I wasn’t thrilled & flattered 🤦🏽‍♀️

Anyone care to share hideous matchmaking stories to make me feel normal about wanting to be a hermit?

Grin Wow, that's an offer you definitely can refuse.

I am single too but have never received any suggestions like this Sad

A friend did once send me on a blind date with a (single) male friend of hers who I thought was nice but dull, but actually was subsequently convicted of harassment (not of me, fortunately!).

my mother
tries to match me up with rich arty farty types

I'm happily married for more than a decade!

Ex friend texted me ‘i’m Looking At lonely hearts ad in paper for you, what age range suits you?’ I laughed it off until she actually produced said paper and column next time I went round. ‘Oh he’s s a builder bet he’s got nice muscles!’ Then said if I didn’t pick she’d call up and leave my number!!! I was appalled that she thought that was acceptable and told her my number would be changed as I don’t want randoms having it. She also told me to try ‘swinging’ websites.

Why people couldn’t accept I was happily single I don’t know. Another friend said ‘oh me and x have been talking and you’d really like his mate’ I had literally just met my now DH. A few days later I got a Facebook friend request from some dude who was so not my cup of tea it was unreal. Meddling friend then said ‘oh accept x, what a shame he’s fighting to see his kids and his ex and him arerrally at each other’s throats!’ Now fair play to the guy bit I didn’t want his baggage and to be dealing with what he was going through.

Yes to parents trying to set you up with someone just because they are rich 😂

fluffyears yes we must have a similar friend. She really thinks that somebody is better than nobody.
They could have more red flags than Karl Marx’s Birthday party and she’d give them the thumbs up. 😂

It’s the looks of pity I get when I refuse!

@gretagumbo the first friend in my thread made me feel like I was less of a person for being single. She decided one night she was going to have a nice meal for her and my brother (he boyfriend at the time) and our other friend and her husband but I could only come with a partner. Other friend told her to shove her meal.

Angie169 · 17/08/2018 19:41

My DH died suddenly less than a year ago, recently two different friends have tried to set me up with guys that they know . One was a work mate that had started at their company a few weeks ago , one was a guy that they met at random in a pub .

PLEASE GO TO THE EDGE OF FUCK AND JUMP OFF !

Fluffyears · 18/08/2018 14:19

@angie169 that’s awful, did they suddenly decide ypu’ve grieved long enough for your soulmate so here have a go on this random? Awful!

Gretagumbo · 18/08/2018 21:30
