Why is my child’s nail like this?

I’ve just noticed that my DDs nail looks deformed. Does anyone know why it’s like this? As far as I’m aware she hasn’t had any trauma to it.

All other nails look normal.

Is it a ridge? Very easily caused by a bump or bash. It'll grow out pretty quickly. Smile

Yes it’s a deep ridge. Didn’t notice it until today but she wouldn’t have mentioned it if she had noticed it before so don’t know how long it’s been like that.

That looks like the nail was trapped a few weeks back (possibly a couple of months) and the damages but is growing through pushing the undamaged bit to the end.

I've witnessed this very thing happen to a child's nail recently.

From start to finish (from damage to back to normal) took about 6 months.

Perhaps get it checked. My dd's nail looked a bit like that and she needed antibiotic cream. She picks her nails a lot. It seemed to happen all of a sudden and she didn't complain of any pain.
