Aretha Franklin changed my life. I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant, feeling emotional, sat in tears on the train, listening to 'I Say a Little Prayer' reminiscing about my father first playing this to me. Don't we all know a song, that's more than a song? It's more of a mantra. A piece of your soul. My dad used to sing this to me at night, over and over until I fell asleep. Aretha Franklin is the one artist who has become a part of my life. Her voice, at my lowest, has been like oxygen. Her words have given me strength. I broke down in tears when my dad asked me to ensure that a Little Prayer was the song he'd be buried to. I now, for the first time understand what it's like to feel so sad over the death of someone you never really knew. I am normally the woman rolling her eyes at folks like me. How wrong could I have been?

I don't know why I am writing on MN about this but I honestly have never, ever shed a tear over a celebrity until now.

Rest easy Aretha. My god how my life is a better one to be living because of you.

Didn't know she had gone until your post. Yes her music was salvo to the soul.

My wedding:
Evening reception was dominated by Aretha and George Michael singing " I knew you were waiting for me"
No one like her, ever
RIP Legend. Thank you for the music. You were a Queen to my soul

I used to sing along to You're All I Need to Get By and rock my son when he was a baby. It seemed like a perfect love song to sing to a child.
And Sisters with Annie Lennox was our anthem in the 80s.
So many others.
Amazing woman.Sad
