How much money do you have lying around at home?

Just that really.
I’m getting ready for holiday and so am putting together what we have left in relevant currency from last year, and I’ve just come across quite a few euro (we are not in U.K.) which I did not realise were there.
I feel slightly like I’ve won the lottery. It’s going into a rainy day tin.

£1000

In a sealed tin
In a locked room
With a very fierce dog who only gets fed once a week inside
On a small island surrounded by shark infested waters

OK, only some of this is accurate

stegosauruslady · 17/08/2018 08:37

A couple of hundred...DP sold something on Gumtree. Anyone trying to pinch it will have to fight through the mountains of crap on his desk though, so if you tidy up as you go, you can have it!

tigercub50 · 17/08/2018 08:42

A couple of pounds in my purse plus £20 on a couple of scratch cards & about £1 that I put into a pot to start saving for next year’s holiday. I have no idea what DH has in his wallet. DD will have £5 pocket money today. We also have a tin for the RSPCA with £23 that DD made by selling some bits but I keep borrowing from it & at the moment it’s empty!

FlotSHAMnJetson · 17/08/2018 08:45

I found £20 in the tumble dryer yesterday 👍

MsHomeSlice · 17/08/2018 08:52

I keep fancy pennies in my room...all the odd commemorative ones. I take them out of my purse, they rattle about my bag, get stashed in various places, and eventually end up safe in an evening bag upstairs....i reckon there's probably £100ish up there...don't tell dh, he has no soul and would spend them in a heartbeat. I really should LTB!

Penny pig...we just emptied her out, and banked about £40, found lots of odd euro coins too so they are in a bag waiting for the next jaunt ...probably about E25 in odds, (I have no euro sign!!) and I think there's a 10 euro note shoved in with the passports too.

And there's a jar on top of the fridge that we try to keep £20-£30 in for add housekeeping stuff if we are away and anyone the children needs to buy emergency stuff takeaways Hmm

kaytee87 · 17/08/2018 08:56

None and I realise that's a mistake.
I think I'll lift out £100 to leave in a drawer.

Livinglavidal0ca · 17/08/2018 09:08

About £25. Never ever have cash laying about but a friend owed my partner money for a festival ticket. He’s been paying it back at about £20 a time Grin we told him not to worry until he had the spare cash bless him. After I buy electricity I’ve got about £1 in my bank account. Payday is next Friday 😂

StylishMummy · 17/08/2018 09:10

£200ish in our emergency £1 pot - usually smashed once a year for our holiday then we start to refill

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 17/08/2018 09:13

Probably around £30 in a penny jar (if that counts). Otherwise we don’t generally tend to have much cash in the house.

When I was in uni I wanted to go out but was low in cash - literally rooted around in the couch I found nearly $25! Grin

BrokenWing · 17/08/2018 09:30

Right now about £5k as dh sold his car privately a couple of days ago and is on the lookout for another one. No idea where he had hid it!!

Kezzie200 · 17/08/2018 09:40

Very little.

I used to keep about £20 when kids needed lunch money but now they have left I dont keep anything much.

Maybe a few euro coins left over from holidays. And probably a few pesetas from long distant holidays - the ones with holes in - they fascinated me!!!

uncoolnn · 17/08/2018 09:42

About 40p in coppers BlushGrin

whitewineandchocolate · 17/08/2018 09:50

£300 and €50 just been burgled and it was stolen along with everything else whilst we were on holiday Sad

bupcakes · 17/08/2018 09:52

I keep £20 in the house, £10 in the car.

thenightsky · 17/08/2018 09:56

DH has been throwing pennies and 2p pieces into a Tupperware pot for about 20 years. When I last looked there are now 3 Tupperware pots full to the brims. I'd love to get it all spent but its too much hassle carrying the weight around. Is there an easy way to convert them to paper money? I feel mean taking them to the bank as its a tiny local branch with only two members of staff and I fear they would hate me forever.

SagelyNodding · 17/08/2018 09:59

25 quid and about 200€-DH probably has some somewhere too

specialsubject · 17/08/2018 10:05

nightsky make an appointment and go to the bank and then tell your husband to stop making work.

dont use the coinstar machines, 10% premium.

JumblieGirl · 17/08/2018 10:06

Me personally, £200 in various locations, £20 in the car and £50 in the stash that others in the house know about.

Thesearmsofmine · 17/08/2018 10:07

Usually between £5 and £10 enough to pay the window cleaners or get a taxi to the hospital.

thenightsky · 17/08/2018 10:08

Thanks specialsubject. I'll do that!

JumblieGirl · 17/08/2018 10:09

If I was to shakedown my adult children, DS would have around £100, DD around 5p. OH has £5.17. I just checked his wallet.

kaytee87 · 17/08/2018 10:09

@thenightsky RBS have machines that count the cash and put it into your account. I know that's no use if you don't have an account there but maybe your bank also does?

GreenMeerkat · 17/08/2018 10:09

Unless DH has dropped some coinage down the sofa there is usually nothing!

thenightsky · 17/08/2018 10:10

DH is with RBS. I'll tell him to crack on with it.

Springersrock · 17/08/2018 10:12

About £30 in loose change in a pot in the house

I keep an emergency £20 note in my phone case and one in the ashtray in my car
