How much money do you have lying around at home?

Just that really.
I’m getting ready for holiday and so am putting together what we have left in relevant currency from last year, and I’ve just come across quite a few euro (we are not in U.K.) which I did not realise were there.
I feel slightly like I’ve won the lottery. It’s going into a rainy day tin.

I’ve got £20 hidden for emergencies, about £15 in my purse and £1.34 in pennies.

Dp has about £600 in £2 coins and £200 in 50p pieces (he collects the special ones so they’re never to be spent)

ShatnersBassoon · 16/08/2018 16:41

Perhaps £40 in my purse. I don't use cash very often, either here or abroad.

CookPassBabtridge · 16/08/2018 16:43

About a tenner in the 'crap draw', gone are the days of raiding the couch and finding a fortune that had dropped out of male relatives pockets!

ILoveMyDressingGown · 16/08/2018 16:50

I've got £3 in my purse and that's only because I won a fiver on a scratchcard. We don't have any money anyway so don't have any loose change (or more substantial amounts) in the house.

TheKitchenWitch · 16/08/2018 16:59

We collect small change in various pots around the house and then at Christmas I take it to the bank and deposit it into ds's bank accounts. I think last year it was around 80 euros, which I was amazed about - it was all 1, 2 and 5 cent pieces!

I'm now wondering how much we've actually got in various drawers and folders. I've only come across this lot because I was looking for holiday currency - it shouldn't have been in that folder at all!

Not sure what that says about us, but it's reassuring to see that lots of others are the same :)

I’ve got £50 in my purse. But only because I went to the cash point this morning and realised I’d used all my emergency stash for dinner money and packed lunch stuff for school today.

CloudPop · 16/08/2018 17:04

I found a £20 note once when I put on a coat at the start of winter. As you say OP, it feels like a real jackpot!

Justanotheruser01 · 16/08/2018 17:04

Probably a couple of hundred in various currencies

Cleanerswin · 16/08/2018 17:05

Wow I'd love to find £800 in my house. I use cash a lot as I'm paid in cash; mostly I have £50 to £100 in my bag plus a tenner or so in my car for petrol stops, it's never there for long though as I have to live! I pay any "excess" into my Council tax account at the post office; some years I'm paid up by xmas which helps a lot in January when everyone is economising.

SoleBizzz · 16/08/2018 17:06

About a fiver. God knows why i usually spend the lot.

Floralnomad · 16/08/2018 17:06

250 in euros from last holiday
About £90 in my purse
Coin pot ( poss £30)
£400 ish in my Xmas envelope

Aaronburrsumbrellawasstolen · 16/08/2018 17:24

€3.40 . I'm richGrin

toldmywrath · 16/08/2018 17:28

Several hundreds, perhaps a thousand? Always have cash laying around, but not usually this much.

Arrowfanatic · 16/08/2018 17:30

Less than I had yesterday as I banked the karate club profits yesterday.

Could probably russle up a £300 if I needed to.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 16/08/2018 17:31

Loads as DH is sometimes paid in cash.

specialsubject · 16/08/2018 17:46

it isn't lying around, but there is enough for a taxi to the not-very-near hospital and some left over. Only fools never have cash because believe it or not, banking systems don't always work.

Undercoverbanana · 16/08/2018 17:49

Zero. I don’t do cash.

Mumshotel · 16/08/2018 17:49

Between 80p - £10. Never much more

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2018 17:52

Kids have about £80 each in their money tins.
I take £100 out each month for petty cash, so that's on the shelf.
As is £300 for the roofer for tomorrow.

And we have 350 euros left from our holiday.

Plus a handful of £2 and £1 coins in a money box
Plus a large roses jar full of 1,2 and 5ps.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 16/08/2018 17:52

About £80 in my purse because I planned to buy something then changed my mind. If I'm being organised there's £10 in a jar in case the window cleaner takes me by surprise. DH collects pound coins in a jar, there's probably £100 or so there.

Melonsandberriew · 16/08/2018 17:54

£900

Single mum. It’s hats to describe but I over organise and plan for every eventuality. So I don’t want to be a middle of the bight wmerhency and need cash for some reason. Or if I need cash to pay a workman / babysitter etc

Melonsandberriew · 16/08/2018 17:55

hard to seecribe

Melonsandberriew · 16/08/2018 17:55

describe

supadupapupascupa · 16/08/2018 17:56

No idea. There’s around 40 Euro, and probably £30 in our wallets. We do withdraw our spends budget in cash on payday though and keep it in a tin. Otherwise we have random machine withdrawals and no idea where we are
