You can't wash bathmats

So the washing machine engineer tells me.
So what does one do? Disposable ones? Use hand towels? Just let them get dirtier and dirtier?
Apparently the bathmat was why the machine 'walked'.

Does it say you can wash them on the label? Did you just put that in? Surely a bathmat can't be that bloody heavy to make the machine walk.

I have some like a thick towel that I just wash with towels.

My grandma had some of the rubber backed ones she washed a lot and all the rubber eventually came off and blocked up all the pipes.

The machine had to be dismantled and it had all gone like scrambled egg. Nightmare

i have cotton ones that dont have a plastic or rubber backing and they go in the washing machine on a regular basis i do however have a rubber backed mat at the front door yep that goes in too and hasnt harmed my machine so i dont know where the engineer got that one from

Mine doesn't like doing it as it unbalances the machine in the spin cycle but I still wash the buggers, sometimes I just have to let them drip dry instead of spinning them (there are times when having a drying shed is an absolute godsend).

No label on it. Yes it's just a very thick towel one, I don't like the ones with the rubber backs.

We have those ones from John Lewis that look like thick towels. I put them in with the towels once a week. Our washing machine is at least nine years old and hasn't walked.

Also my washing machine used to walk and it was the wood floor underneath sort of bouncing where it wasn't flat underneath.

We have a bathmat from Ikea that is washable.

Ah thats just like a thick towel. On it's own or with one or two thinner bits it'd be fiiiiiiiiiiiiine

Walking is because it’s not properly balanced. You need to sort it’s feet or the floor out. It helps if you put another heavy thing in too, so maybe wash two together or put some old towels in with it (or your towels, I just don’t like washing the floor mat with our towels).

I think you've been a victim of faulty mansplaining.

Did you put it in on its own? Bulky things when wet can unbalance the machine. Best to wash them with a couple of towels, etc.

DD has similar ones to ours from Dunelm.

You totally can wash bath mats, but some get very heavy when wet so maybe that's what he's talking about? I have a very thick, super-absorbent one that weighs an absolute ton when I wash it. My machine gets a bit upset because it unbalances the drum - it just refuses to do the fast spin until I rearrange the load by hand.

A cheapish one, which I think might be the issue. We've bought the last few as expensive ones in quick succession and have finally decided you don't get what you pay for when you buy washing machines

Of course you can. I wash my plastic backed doormats in the machine too!
