You can't wash bathmats

So the washing machine engineer tells me.
So what does one do? Disposable ones? Use hand towels? Just let them get dirtier and dirtier?
Apparently the bathmat was why the machine 'walked'.

I don't have a bath mat, now I'm feeling a bit left out.Sad

ellendegeneres · 16/08/2018 19:45

What an absolute twatnoodle. I’ve always washed mine in the machine, and my trainers for that matter- reebok classics come out amazing if you chuck them in a pillowcase for the wash. For some reason the one time I didn’t they fell apart and broke my heart, they’re so comfy

StealthPolarBear · 16/08/2018 21:29

Well the deed is done. The bathmat is clean. I'm such a rebel

MountainWitch · 16/08/2018 22:34

Motherhood101fail do you mean you buy a new cotton bathmat every week?! And throw the 'old' one away? Like in the bin?

My mind is boggling, help me out

Oly5 · 16/08/2018 22:36

That’s definitely washable

gummywitch · 16/08/2018 22:56

As long as it's fabric-backed rather than rubber/plastic, I'd def wash it on a delicate cycle, gentle spin speed, along with 3 or 4 bath towels to balance the machine. My beloved 11kg washer decided to dance across the kitchen floor last month, nearly ripping out it's water inlet hose n drain hose when i stupidly put a big holdall in there to wash on its own. Thank the lord i was in the house at the time! Loud banging and thumping as it tried to.go into a spin. Had to turn it off at the plug pronto. Lesson learnt!

Accountant222 · 16/08/2018 23:02

I've always washed bath mats, no problem ever encountered

IrenetheQuaint · 16/08/2018 23:06

I once had a bathmat disintegrate spectacularly in the machine. Fibres everywhere. The machine didn't seem bothered, though.

Alabasterangel6 · 16/08/2018 23:07

I must be an anarchist.

I wash my bath towels AND my door mats, converse (tied in a pillowcase), ditto tom type pumps and CROCS.

I also machine things like wash bags, shower curtains and lunch bags. All in tied pillow cases. If I’m going to be extorted out of £12 for a hideous smuggle lunch bag then it’s going to survive long enough to be washed. And they come out like new.

Don’t even get me started on what goes in the dishwasher .....

Alabasterangel6 · 16/08/2018 23:08

Smiggle not smuggle 🙄

FlappyFeet · 16/08/2018 23:19

I've broken two washing machines by washing bath mats in them.

I'm too scared to do it again so go at them outside with the power washer and some washing liquid

BalloonSlayer · 16/08/2018 23:44

It's clear that washing machine repairers never do the washing at home. Just like photocopier repairers ("don't bang the lid shut! It damages the machine!") never have to produce 100 copies of a mind-numbing memo before 2pm on a frigging copier that keeps jamming.

And air conditioning technicans have never worked in an office in their life:
"Of course it's not working. You opened the windows. Air con doesn't work if the windows are open."
"No, we opened the windows because the air conditioning wasn't working. "
"Well that's why, it wasn't working, love. Because you'd opened the windows. "
"Look. Mate. We got here at 8am and it was 28 degrees. We phoned up to say the air con wasn't working at 9am when it was 30 degrees. We chased up why you hadn't arrived at 12 noon because it was now 35 degrees. We opened the windows at 1pm because it was 40 degrees. Then you finally turn up at 1.15."
"Well if would be working if you hadn't opened the windows.'

Ohyesiam · 16/08/2018 23:50

I once broke a washing machine with an XXL thick towelling bathrobe. It couldn’t cope with the weight.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/08/2018 05:42

The trick to stopping walking is to put it in a cupboard.

serbska · 17/08/2018 08:10

Yes but not on it’s own - t can unbalance the machine.

wrenika · 17/08/2018 13:15

We buy cheap bathmats and just thrown them out when they reach the point you'd want to wash them. I've found washing them makes a mess of my washing machine. Tried twice...never again!

StealthPolarBear · 17/08/2018 13:16

Ours are washed weekly though

OP posts:
SoyDora · 17/08/2018 13:16

We wash ours weekly too, no way I’d buy new ones every week!

ShumpaLumpa · 17/08/2018 14:00

I found that bathmat was not being spun in the spin bit of the cycle so was still drenched.

Beko said bathmat shouldn't be washed on its own, show be washed with a couple of other things.

Anyone know if it's to replace a split rubber seal on washing machine?

ShumpaLumpa · 17/08/2018 14:00

*if it's easy
