Has anyone ever done an opinion poll? (Politics or anything else)

I'm thinking mainly politics here, but I guess for other stuff too.

I listen to a few political podcasts and they always talk about polls (e.g. not just exit polls at election time).

Who do they poll and where?

There are loads of sites that pay you to complete surveys. YouGov is one that often asks about politics.
I've earned a few vouchers for Amazon and John Lewis by answering questions on all sorts.
