I need a female hedgehog name

Last year I had a huge hedgehog come to feed and she acquired the name Drucilla.

This year a much smaller but adult hedgehog has been visiting and eating/drinking. I have called him Brian, because I think that's what he looks like.

Then a couple of days ago I found out another hedgehog is visiting. I have no idea if any of the hedgehogs are male or female so I'm rotating male and female names.

So any ideas. I have not got a pic of her yet, she is slightly darker, both in fur and spines than Brian and she does not have the patch of lighter coloured spines Brian has.

The first pic is Brian, the second is Drucilla

I can't use Hermione, my friend has a daughter with that name.

I'm not sure I can use Branston Prickle, Spike was vetoed last year (hence Drucilla).

But taking notes.

Jupiter9 · 16/08/2018 15:15

Quite a delicacy in some countries, normally cooked in clay.

EyUpOurKid · 16/08/2018 15:22

Bramble, or if she's particularly girlie hedgehog, hair bows and the like; Brambelle

BMW6 · 16/08/2018 15:31

Willow, to follow the Buffy theme

MrsChollySawcutt · 16/08/2018 16:42

We have a hedge in our garden that we have named Hamilton (DD is obsessed with the musical). So I vote for Eliza as that was the name of Hamilton's wife.

MrsChollySawcutt · 16/08/2018 16:44

Hedgehog - I haven't started naming random hedges!!

@MrsChollySawcutt Grin that really made me laugh and cheered me up!

sashh · 17/08/2018 08:17

I too am laughing at giving the hedge a name.

I like the idea of Princess Sparkles, such a contrast to Brian.

I had a pet mouse called Princess Superstar so it's not too out there.

Milligan

I run a hedgehog rescue and for goodness sake just anything with imagination is great. I can't even take anymore Henry, Harry, Spike and Sonics for boys then Tiggywinkle, Hermione, Hetty, Harriets for girls causes havoc on the paperwork. Best ones have been Haku (featured on Come Dine With Me) she was found close to the water, Milligan (Spike), Ed Chog, Maquilda, Out and Prickililly (similar to Branson Prickle). We also gets hoglets named in sets so we've had quintuplets Gary, Jason, Mark, Howard and Robbie, then triplets Bill, Ben and Weed. Another rescue near me picks themes so she had loads of Viking and Nordic names like Loki, Thorn, Bjorn, Ragnar and Freya. If you want to sex them the boys' tackle is where you'd expect to find a belly button and girls' is all down at one end. Boys' bits can sometimes still be seen when they are curled on their back as they end up with their nose on it! If there are two together the girl huffs and spins while the boy walks round and round her. Two boys fight and two girls ignore each other if they all exhibit typical behaviours. It's best not to stress them by sexing them as it means picking them up. Always was your hands after touching them as they are rather grubby, too many mealworms is bad for them they have the nutritional value of a crisp and can cause metabolic bone disease though a few is ok just car biscuits or hedgehog biscuits are great. Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant. Thank you for looking out for them Smile

Mrs Fuzzypeg would be my choice.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/08/2018 11:55

How about Demelza, after Drucilla ? 😄

HedgehogRescueHERBY

Thank you,

OK I'm going with Princess Sparkles, there can't be too many other hogs with that name.

I'm not intending to pick them up to sex them. Drucilla was really friendly and if you touched her she would just chuff, she was happy to come right up to you in the garden, Brian is OK as long as I don't look directly at him and PS, as she is now known is fine as long as she doesn't hear the TV that makes her run off.

They are getting a bowl of water and a bowl of Whiskers dried food. I tried wet food but the left it, I'm not giving mealworms, I read about hogs eating them in preference to proper food and getting problems with their bones.

These appear at different times so I'm not sure they know of the existence of the other.

Brilliant. There are some great names here that I might pinch Wink. I named a hog Sparkle that we'd collected from a vet I couldn't work out how she'd got covered in purple glitter until two weeks later the finder rang saying the vets had given her my number to check on the hog's progress. Turns out the only box she could find to rescue the hedgehog in was the one they stored the Xmas decorations in which she emptied onto the floor put the hedgehog in and dashed for the vet. As we all know once glitter really does get everywhere! The cheap cat biscuits from Aldi are great too if that makes the whole thing cheaper cos those hedgehogs can put food away for fun. Aldi stuff has great meat content percentages so only cheap price wise (no I don't work there though I probably should charge them commission). Good luck with PS and crew, a prickle of hedgehogs is good for the soul.

sashh · 18/08/2018 07:32

I'll have a look at the Aldi food, my cat is really fussy so won't eat anything other than Whiskers (and human food).

Strangely she ignores the food I put out for the hogs.

My carer wants to call her twilight so she now has the rather grand name of Princess Twilight Sparkles.

Very bad pic of the cat helping herself to the hog water and Brian filling his little belly.
