What is the likelihood of pregnancy after the snip?

My DH got a vasectomy over a year ago and I've started getting spotting (very unlikely for me) I'm not due a period for another 10 days. I'm just curious as to the possibility of pregnancy.

*sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I would assume very very slim, providing he went back for his sample test afterwards.

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 14:20

I don't know if he's done a sample. I left him to it at the end of his OP and he's not mentioned anything.

My dh's first one failed. Bit ridiculous to not check he had done a sample and been given the all clear

My idiot husband never went back for a sample test. Unsurprisingly I’m reluctant to have sex with no protection and it has left me furious.

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 16:26

I will be asking about the sample when he comes home. The place who did the op is on his way to work. I'm furious with him now. I stupidly assumed he would have took care of it. He's got no paperwork or anything.

Even if the surgery is initially successful, the vas deferens can in some cases spontaneously join itself back up. The rate of vasectomy failure is about 1 in 2,000, sometimes only happening a decade or more after surgery

Coconut0il · 16/08/2018 16:38

DP had it done in Jan. He had to send a sample off in June (16 weeks after, I think). He sent another in July. He then got a letter saying the op had been successful.

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 16:38

So the odds are still highly unlikely?
I guess the only way to know for certain is to wait for AF

Find out if he posted off his swimmers sample

Very very slim chance

Whatter · 16/08/2018 16:43

We didn't stop using protection until DH got the all clear. I'm shocked you didn't check this first before having unprotected sex tbh Shock

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 16:47

He told me it was 3 months after the OP it would be all clear. No mention of a sample. I've called him and now I'm waiting for him to ring me back (he's in service)

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 16:49

Well I have been a fucking mug!
Apparently you don't have to hand in a sample and the amount of times we have done it in the past year obviously means his OP worked Angry I'm going to bloody murder him!

Whatter · 16/08/2018 16:50

You have to have two consecutive clear samples before the snip is deemed successful. They make this very clear. Does he have a habit of being irresponsible?

The chances of you being pregnant are slim so I wouldn't worry too much especially if he had it done a year ago.

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 16:52

I didn't think he'd be irresponsible with this Sad and yes he has been a bit daft in the past. Never this bad.

It's prob not what you want to hear, but I am a failed vasectomy baby 😳 Granted my dad had the op back in the early 80s and I expect things have moved on a bit now, but it does happen.

JLG19 · 16/08/2018 17:35

Why were you furious before you'd asked him whether or not he'd sent the sample? Confused

If AF does show, you may want to consider seeing the GP about the spotting. Are you up to date with your smear tests?

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 18:07

He called me back once I called him. Quite merrily mentioned he hasn't done a sample. I didn't know one was required. He bloody did. That's why I'm cross. We have been through a lot. I have IIH for example.
I'm up to date on smears. I haven't changed any meds or anything so no reason for spotting that I know of.

Currently sat here 36 weeks pregnant. Partner had the snip 15 years ago... it’s been a very unexpected 40th Birthday present Hmm

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 18:17

That is a surprise brandnewstart good luck Flowers

Thank you! It’s not been easy as it really was a complete shock but looking forward to the arrival now.

Fluffyears · 16/08/2018 19:06

Why not pee on a stick. Idiotboy can pay for the test, is it too early to do that?

ElseaMoon · 16/08/2018 19:08

It's too early at the moment. Idiotboy will be paying when the time comes.

Fluffyears · 16/08/2018 19:28

Love that the nickname is sticking. I had some random spotting years ago and nothing ever cans of it. The gp said itmight be cervical erosion.
