Should undies and tea cloths be washed together?

I think not, DH, normally very particular...just chucks them all in together as a whites wash on 40.

Oh - I forgot. I do DH's *proper) handkerchiefs separately. Soak them first in bleach and bio detergent, and wash them in a little net bag on their own in the machine. I know it's wasteful, but I can't bear mucus/snot. It's infinitely more disgusting than the occasional skiddie.

nicebitofquiche · 18/08/2018 09:28

This thread is hilarious. I think when I wash my stuff, everything together, it comes out from the washing machine clean. I've never given a thought as to whether it had microscopic poo or snot particles and even if it did I wouldn't care because I know nothing would happen to me and it wouldn't matter Grin

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 09:40

I must be gross then. Even chucked cloth pads in with a wash before....😑

icelollycraving · 18/08/2018 10:35

Cloth pads? What,for periods?

extinctspecies · 18/08/2018 10:41

Jeez. I wash everything together (sorted by colour only) and at 30 with non-bio detergent because it's better for the environment. Except towels which I was together at 60.

I might wash DS's very muddy rugby kit separately & a at a higher temperature occasionally too..

No-one is my family of 4 (2 teenagers) has ever been ill due to my laundry practices.

extinctspecies · 18/08/2018 10:47

Do the obsessive laundry sorters have day jobs too?

Just wondering.

icelollycraving · 18/08/2018 11:00

Yes, I work full time.

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 11:02

Yep. Periods. I wash my trousers etc in with them. They do get rinsed...but it's no big deal. Well not to me

ToadOfSadness · 18/08/2018 11:26

Just wondering, someone mentioned not using tea towels as it is more hygienic to air dry which I also do, but how do you dry fruit & veg, or do you leave it dirty and eat the germs and bugs, or air dry that too?

icelollycraving · 18/08/2018 11:33

I wash fruit and either dry on a piece of kitchen roll, clean and pressed tea towel or don’t dry (strawberries etc).

dementedpixie · 18/08/2018 11:42

I use kitchen roll for drying fruit/veg

SoyDora · 18/08/2018 11:59

I use kitchen roll too. Or eat it wet.

SeptimusQuench · 18/08/2018 12:00

Gosh. How do people have the time, energy, and even memory, to stick to all these rules?

And what is the point of fabric conditioner? (Genuine question)

dementedpixie · 18/08/2018 12:02

It smells nice and makes the clothes feel softer

nicebitofquiche · 18/08/2018 12:06

I never wash fruit. Or vegetables. Still alive.

SeptimusQuench · 18/08/2018 12:17

Oh OK. Thanks dementedpixie.

I don’t particularly like the synthetic smell of washing powder or most cleaning products, so probably not for me then. I also quite like the crisp crunchy feel of clean clothes and bedding (is that odd?)

I wonder if it’s possible to buy odourless washing stuff?

ILoveMyDressingGown · 18/08/2018 15:29

I can only use certain laundry detergents and can't use fabric softener as I'm allergic to the perfume.

Someone asked about drying fruit and veg: I don't. I just shake the excess water off and eat or use it wet. I probably don't wash it properly either because all I do is give it a quick rinse under the tap.

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 16:51

I never wash fruit and veg.

Skyejuly · 18/08/2018 16:52

Using kitchen roll is such a waste.

LuluJakey1 · 18/08/2018 17:02

I do towels and bedding on 60
I do tea towels and dishcloths on 60 or 95 with dettox and tumble dry on hot
Underwear - cotton- on 60 with dettox
Whites on 40 or 60 if need brightening
Everything else on 30

ladyslattern · 18/08/2018 23:09

Towels, tea towels, bathmats, flannels and dish cloths together at eco 90 (cycle takes 4 hours)
Bedding at 60.
Clothes at 40, coloureds, and whites/lights in different loads.
Fabric softener is the devils sperm.
DP just chucks everything in randomly. I can’t watch.

JellySlice · 19/08/2018 08:18

@SeptimusQuench & @ILoveMyDressingGown

Surcare fabric conditioner is fragrance-free, as are the laundry powder, laundry liquid and washing-up liquid.

kateandme · 19/08/2018 12:12

nope not died yet and all our lives weve had them all in together.sometimes even a quickwash on 30!

wrenika · 19/08/2018 13:37

I wash anything and everything together at a 40 degree quick wash.

The only thing I take care to separate is my expensive Blackmilk clothes which get the handwash setting. Everything else takes its chances!

Deadringer · 19/08/2018 14:45

Lord people are weird.
