Should undies and tea cloths be washed together?

I think not, DH, normally very particular...just chucks them all in together as a whites wash on 40.

Towels, tea towels and face cloths....all in on hot wash with laundry cleanser.

Clothes (undies included) separate but for now other reason that I do clothes, towels and bedding washes.

PlatypusPie · 15/08/2018 22:18

Nope . Tea towels with towels and bedding at 60C, undies and other clothes 40C .

DappledThings · 15/08/2018 22:21

Tea towels, cleaning clothes etc all get chucked in the machine once used to await the rest of the contents of the laundry basket, whatever that is, to make up a load.

Everything goes on the 59 minutes speed cycle at 40. Life's too short.

haribosmarties · 15/08/2018 22:21

Yeah I chuck it all in together on 30... unless something is particularly minging in which case I put it on a hot wash on its own.

DappledThings · 15/08/2018 22:25

Cloths I meant, not cleaning clothes. Although I wouldn't be surprised to hear some people do have special cleaning clothes as cleaning cloths.

bigbluebus · 15/08/2018 22:26

All goes in together here too.

GrumpyOldMare · 15/08/2018 22:28

The only things that get washed separately are my white work shirts/bedding on a 60 wash. Everything else gets chucked in together on a 40 wash. Got better things to do than having to do 3 or 4 different small loads. Waste of water, wash powder and electricity.

PuntCuffin · 15/08/2018 22:29

Life is too short for so much laundry angst. I follow Ilovemydressinggown 's philosophy. Bung it all in together. Have been doing so for decades. Family are all robustly healthy.

MrsFezziwig · 15/08/2018 22:33

Can’t really see the logic of separating tea towels from clothes but then putting them in with towels & bath mats, which have both been in contact with bodies not that I subscribe to any of this nonsense

Pissedoffdotcom · 15/08/2018 22:35

Do folk not use softener for their clothes? Or does everyone use softener on their towels too? I know from using nappies that it knackers the absorbency up...totally put me off using softener on my towels!

Namelesswonder · 15/08/2018 22:37

Why do people find it necessary to separate things? Colours I understand but why towels / underwear? Surely the hot water and detergent kills any germs? I sort by colour then everything gets washed together at 30 or 40, depending on if filthy / muddy or just normal day to day wear. As a family we rarely get ill, maybe my washing habits help our immune systems!

Betsy86 · 15/08/2018 22:44

I was debating this with myself while sorting washing earlier (really need to get out more) i cant mix things up atleast seperate washes for bedding/towels and clothes... but the thought of washing tea towels with the bath matts makes me want to vom Biscuit
Not even sure why jus dont like the thought of those things swishing round together.
Maybe this thread will help change my mind.....

Fatted · 15/08/2018 22:48

Nope nope nope! Have to be separated!

Nothing to do with hygiene. It's purely because I hate my clothes coming out with bits of fluff all over them from towels.

DappledThings · 15/08/2018 22:53

Never had fluff from towels come off on anything.

Also never used softener pissedoff. I've never felt that my clothes or anything else were particularly rough!

Pissedoffdotcom · 15/08/2018 22:55

I love clothes washed with softener. They smell amazing haha

solittletime · 15/08/2018 22:56

This really is the million dollar question. Undies and clothes can't always be mixed, because surely undies need to be washed at 60? Whenever possible I put undies with sheets. Or undies with towels. Tea towels with whichever out of towels or sheets doesn't have undies... Maybe I'm not so odd after all!

DappledThings · 15/08/2018 22:57

I do like a nice laundry smell. You are tempting me!

Girlslikeme · 15/08/2018 22:58

I’ve never even thought about it. All in together.

Pissedoffdotcom · 15/08/2018 22:58

Just not on your towels!! They genuinely don't dry as well after a few washes with softener, it's almost distressing

Girlslikeme · 15/08/2018 22:59

Undies at 60? I don’t do anything on 60.

mumprincess12 · 15/08/2018 23:01

This is a funny thread - are you worried about your bum or your plates?

NotUmbongoUnchained · 15/08/2018 23:01

I don’t even separate colours! All just gets shoved in and I press the on button Grin

We’re all relatively presentable.

solittletime · 15/08/2018 23:03

To be fair I never washed anything at sixty until I got to my mid thirties and actually started thinking about it. I never even used to sort. It just all went in mixed at 30.
I survived those wilderness years and lived to tell the tale so nitbquite sure if there is a switch in the brain that suddenly makes you notice the 60 Degree option at a certain age!!

BellMcEnd · 15/08/2018 23:05

All shoved in together here.

We all seem pretty robust. No dysentery yet

MulderitsmeX · 15/08/2018 23:39

I read that tea towels shouldnt go on a 40 wash with undies as the bacteria will not be dead and transfer to the tea towels - gross!! I do the following washes

  1. Tea towels kitchen towels, oven gloves 60.
  2. Red wash at 40
  3. Dark wash 40 - sometimes separated into undies and shirts if enough for 2 washes.
  4. Baby wash 40
  5. White clothes 60
  6. Bed linen 60 (this alone is a full drum)
  7. Towels at 60 or 90 (90 always if DH's cheesey towel)
  8. Sports wear and bras low spin 4o
  9. Wool - wool wash 30
10. Cleaning clothes quick cycle

Obvs I just do these as needed so I won't do all of these in a week, i just save stuff so there's a full drum of whichever.

I also read that washing towels with elasticated things breaks down the elastic so always do towels separately.
