Should undies and tea cloths be washed together?

I think not, DH, normally very particular...just chucks them all in together as a whites wash on 40.

Even stuff that comes out of the dishwasher needs a wipe though where water sometimes collects? Tea towels are used only for that.

SoyDora · 16/08/2018 17:15

Hmm not in my house (well maybe DH wipes stuff, I have no idea. I don’t!). I’m lax though.

Pissedoffdotcom · 16/08/2018 17:18

We don't dry up here, everything air dries.

If bum germs can go from pants to tea towel...why is nobody worried about them going onto a tee shirt that you pull over your head probably touching your face

GoldenWonderwall · 16/08/2018 17:39

Does everyone else walk around with winnets or something? Everything goes in at 30 here and mixed together. I do separate pales and whites from the general wash in a vague attempt to stop them turning grey. I use dettol laundry cleanser as I’ve found this removes sweat smells from clothes washed at 30.

KarlDilkington · 16/08/2018 17:48

Never in my life has this crossed my mind

chardonm · 16/08/2018 17:54

I wash everything at 60. I've found that my clothes don't suffer. Obviously not the odd silk dress etc.

theunsure · 16/08/2018 17:59

I wash clothes at 30 unless it is my riding stuff which can get minging.
Towels I do at 60 usually and tea towels are included, but the odd stray tea towel goes in at 30 with underwear and whatever other clothes there are.
I do also do bedding at 60 when I can because Our 3 cats frequently sleep on the beds and I think its good to give it a hotter blast just in case.
We are alive and well!

Thesuzle · 16/08/2018 18:00

Noooooooooooo

Raffertysdognuts · 16/08/2018 18:26

Well this crossed my mind when dd got threadworms at school when she was little. The advice was that the eggs are only destroyed if washed above 60°c. Since then, I have washed pants, towels and bath mats, tea towels and dish cloths separately at 90°c and tumble-dried them or hung them up in the sun too (eggs destroyed by heat and light). And we have enough of each that I can wash a full load each time. Worth bearing in mind if you have school age DC where it is estimated that between 10-40% of pupils have threadworms at any one time.

00100001 · 16/08/2018 18:40

You are all grim.

I wash clothes on a 130c wash, rinse with disinfectant.

As for underwear? Thue get thrown in the incinerator after one use.

Anything else is just vile.

Raffertysdognuts · 16/08/2018 19:01

100100001 Grin
You'd be surprised, I often take a flame-thrower to dh's y-fronts

BackforGood · 16/08/2018 20:51

Do people dry the their hands and faces on different towels to the one they dry their body on?

Good grief, of course I do. I personally don't want to dry my face on a towel that's just dried my bum.

Hmm Here's a suggestion for you..... only rub a towel across your body (whichever part of it), after you've washed that part of your body. I personally don't rub a towel anywhere dirty, I rub it on me to dry myself after I've washed my body - be that in the sink, shower or bath.
Starlings27 · 16/08/2018 21:01

Towels together at 60, including any kitchen towels (hand towels as we air dry the washing up); clothes at 40. Bedding separate, but also 40.

Starlings27 · 16/08/2018 21:03

And I have a separate hair/face towel, as well as a bath sheet for my body. I do have anxiety about germs though.

Diamondlife · 16/08/2018 21:05

I’d never wash underwear with tea towels, the thought is quite revolting to me.,

MajesticWhine · 16/08/2018 22:54

@GoldenWonderwall thank you so much for using the word winnets Grin haven't heard that in years

fbsg · 16/08/2018 23:00

heheh, people are weird Grin

Oh, I see BonfiresOfInsanity got there first with that particular observation.

'S true though.

Mummyschnauzer · 17/08/2018 11:14

I’ve washed both together for the last 25 years, mum been doing the same for at least 60 years. Both still alive😂

Alibaba87 · 17/08/2018 11:21

All in together, all at 40 degrees.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/08/2018 12:48

I have a lot of tea towels, so when I'm running short they all go in a 60 wash together, on their own.
Hardly anything else ever goes in a hot wash, except white cotton/linen now and then. 40 or 30 for everything, and nobody's died or caught loathsome diseases yet.

Sirzy · 17/08/2018 12:53

I always wondered why there was need for the new germ killing washing powder I have seen advertised recently - now i now!

I wonder how many people have ever actually been made ill from not seperatinb their clothes!

AuFinch · 17/08/2018 13:23

Dont be so soft and get them all in the same wash! we use ours as hand towels anyway and let our pots air dry.

Makes me laugh people will do this and that to keep "clean" and yet you go out and see people not washing hands after going to the loo. Basically if you step outside your house into the general public (and especially if you eat food you have not prepared yourself) you are likely to touch more harmful dirt than your teatowels will get from washing your underwear and anything else in your machine - detergents bust the cell structure of germs even at low temperatures, but the higher temps are better for keeping your drum clean.

Makes me laugh - go clean your mobile phones, remote controls and door handles - they have more germs on than your toilet seat! And dont get me started on hand rails and door handles in public places - lots of willy germs all over those! haha. When were they last cleaned? Enjoy your lunch! haha

agedknees · 17/08/2018 14:29

Depends on how skiddyish the underpants are he he he.

YourMilkshakeIsBetterThanMine · 17/08/2018 14:47

This thread is making my teeth itch.

There are 5 of us including a baby. Tea towels get their own wash (90). Towels get a different wash (60). All clothing is separated into white/dark/light/bright and washed at 40 with a shot of Dettol laundry added. Vanish for whites and lights. Lenor scent boosts for everything. I probably do 10-14 full loads a week.

I feel ill at the thought of mixing tea towels and pants. I know it'll all mostly come out clean but it just won't feel clean enough. I don't even like mixing my stuff with DH's stuff Blush

SoyDora · 17/08/2018 14:53

I don't even like mixing my stuff with DH's stuff

I presume (obviously could be wrong) that you have sex with you DH? Share bodily fluids with him? But you don’t want to wear clothes that have been in the same wash as his clothes?!
A PP was right... people are weird!
