Had a really stressful afternoon in Halfords today after ordering an expensive Kenwood dmx7017 dab radio. I need something for connecting my phone, doing maps and also Spotify.
Halfords took my reg, said it was compatible over a week ago and ordered everything. Radio was £360 but bill with fitting kit, leads and fitting was going to be £500.
Went to have it fitted today and after 3 hours they say they can’t get the dab working and i’ll Have to have a slightly cheaper pioneer one. I asked what the difference was and was told they did exactly the same and the fitter prefers pioneer, etc. At no point did they ask what phone I have. I have an android and when I’d researched radios went for one with android auto.
So they fitted this pioneer one. No demo of howmtomwork it, there’s no instructions of any use.
It’s shit. Firstly if I plug my phone in I can only use the radio connected to the phone if I download a pioneer keyboard which is shit with no predictive text. I can’t be bothered with the hassle of changing my keyboard in settings every time I either put it in the car or take it out. If I use the pioneer keyboard texts take twice as long to compose.
It doesn’t have android auto. Now I don’t really know the benefit of android auto....this pioneer one says it’s android compatible but I’m assuming android auto is better. A review I’ve read online says the pioneer one is only worth having if you have an iPhone.
I’ve rung Halfords back and they said I can take this pioneer one back. Fitter said you can have the kenwood one “but I’m not fitting it”. He seemed totally unaware of a difference between android auto and just being android compatible. I mean I don’t know what the difference really is but it sounds like it’s better?? I can’t get google maps on the pioneer, only some crappy navigation app which I can’t even open.
Has anyone got a kenwood one with an android phone. Can you get google maps and does it let you keep your normal phone keyboard?

Oh and fucking Halfords have sawed a hole inside my glove box without telling me and left all rough plastic with a wire sticking out, dh is furious.
