Is there any way to get a boat from Paddington (or near) to the o2?

Going to London with the kids tomorrow to the o2 and really wanted to take a boat down the Thames from Paddington station, or nearby to the O2, rather than the tube. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, how?! Thank you

Paddington isn’t on the Thames.... But if you get the tube down to the river then yes you can get a boat.

Bakerloo line to Embankment and get the tube from there?

runningkeenster · 15/08/2018 19:20

BOAT from there.

If you go 3 stops on bakerloo to Baker Street u can change for jubilee line and then 3 stops to westminster. You can get a boat from the pier to Greenwich.

(Although double check of Westminster tube is back open after the incident yesterday)

Paddington Station is nowhere near the Thames. I think your best bet is to get a tube - sorry - to Westminster where there is a pier, at Westminster Pier, where you can get a boat down to the O2.

If Westminster is closed, then your next best bet is to get the boat near Waterloo, just by The London Eye.

Thank you. So if I get to embankment or Westminster is it obvious where you go to catch the boats? I’ve been to London before and don’t know if I’ve ever seen where those kind of boats go from.... and how are they labelled? Will it just say, “to o2” on the front? I’m really not thick,
Sorry if this makes me sound it!!!

Cross posted with pan

Ok so aim for Westminster pier or Waterloo.
I’ve been to the eye before a few years ago, can’t remember seeing a pier, but I’m sure I could ask someone!

Once you get to whichever Pier, it will tell you which boats go where. Actually, IIRC, they all go to the O2. But some of the boats are the rather slow tourist boats.

You're probably better off getting the fast boat - the MBNA Thames Clipper River Bus Express.

Bakerloo line from Paddington to Charing Cross. Walk down Villiers Street to Embankment tube and out to the river, and Embankment Pier is right there. Boat to North Greenwich for the O2. Have fun!

Westminster will be the nearest, but as lisaorris99 said, after yesterday it's possible that Westminster might not be open.

The Pier at Waterloo is nearly underneath the London Eye, just to the right hand side - if you're facing the river.

PanPanPanPing · 15/08/2018 19:35

Yes, Embankment is another good idea too!

TheCrowFromBelow · 15/08/2018 19:39

It’s really easy getting them and yes, very obvious - big gangplank type thing.

They have departure notices up and there are guards who are really helpful.
It’s a fab way to get there.

witchmountain · 15/08/2018 19:42

I agree with what piglet81 said but I wouldn’t get off the tube a stop early Grin

Easiest way will be to get the Bakerloo line to Embankment. There are less exit options than at Charing Cross - just walknit if the one that takes you onto the Embankment, that is the road that runs alongside the river, and the pier is right there.

keenoonvino · 15/08/2018 19:50

Thank you all so much! Will let you know Friday what I ended up doing and if I managed to actually do Something fun like this in London without messing it up!

Have a great time. The view down the river will be stunning!!

G1ggleloop · 15/08/2018 20:26

Westminster station is open. It didn’t even fully shut yesterday morning
