South Coast Short Break ideas please

For several reasons we haven't been able to have a summer holiday this year but we are hoping to get away for a few days over the bank holiday weekend. We haven't ever really explored or stayed on the south coast so like the idea of Dorset area or maybe the Sussex coast.

We have 2 teenage DS so some activities; tennis, swimming, etc would be good if we want to get some conversation and effort out of them. (They love places like Centre Parcs/Potters Resort as they're quite sporty when the sloth like attitudes disappear.)

Due to commitments we can't leave until the Sunday so most holiday parks seems to be out of the question as they all seem to be Friday-Monday or Monday - Friday. (We would like Sunday - Wednesday Confused) Is there a website where I can find private static rentals on parks I wonder.

Does anyone have any suggestions of hotels/areas/holiday parks that might meet our requirements? Don't care if it's self catering or not, would love to be close to a beach, the activity side of thing is pretty important (and preferably without extortionate additional cost involved)

Wise MNetters can you help me find somewhere to take 2 boys and a hardworking DH for a few days?

A bit further west TLH resort Torquay a group of four hotels offering entertainment and some sports facilities A few mins from the beach and plenty in the area to keep kids amused

JuneWhitfieldshandbag · 15/08/2018 18:37

@rosie1959 that is exactly the sort of thing! Thank you so much. It's a bit further on than I really wanted to travel however looks like it might be worth the mileage, thanks again, have WineCake[santa]Brew all on me

If you do Dorset, see if the Tyneham ghost village and RAF firing range (the open country not the actual guns!) are open to the public when you’re there. Stunning and so interesting for all ages.

Sandy balls in the new forest?

rosie1959 · 15/08/2018 19:07

Not in Potters league but not their prices either We are in Cambridgeshire and do TLH quite regularly usually about 4 to five hours journey
Suggest The Carlton or Toorak if you can get availability

Sounds like a painful day at the beach @Eve Wink I'll take a look thanks

It’s not the best named place ever! 😀

It’s in the New Forest, though about 30mins from the beaches, but lots of things to do nearby. Moore’s Valley Park and go ape, new forest water park, Bournemouth beaches, Beaulieu motor museum, tank museum, monkey world are all easily reachable.

JuneWhitfieldshandbag · 16/08/2018 11:00

Thanks @Eve Sandy Balls looks lovely, had just hoped to find somewhere closer to the coast (maybe walking distance to a beach) I've had a look at some of the same company's other places but looks like they are fixed on arrival days being Fridays and Mondays.
Will give the call centre a call though and see if that's the case
Thanks again

I don't have a specific site but have you looked at Isle of Wight? Lots to do there and the ferry across makes it feel like a proper holiday!

GoldenHoops · 16/08/2018 12:39

JuneWhitfieldshandbag
Try phoning Sandhills caravan park in Mudeford 01425 200744. They might have a someething although its popular. Its right on Avon beach, brilliant for all watersports and hiring stuff is easy.

JuneWhitfieldshandbag · 16/08/2018 15:26

@GoldenHoops that looks perfect as well, can't call at the moment as at work (sneaky website hunting can be done though) It looks like there are private rentals and one available on a holiday letting site. Thanks again - looks exactly what we want

Bournemouth air festival is on bank holiday weekend which attracts 9 million people so you might want to avoid the Bournemouth area until the Monday

happinessischocolate · 17/08/2018 19:18

Actually if you go to Sandhills and get there Sunday take the ferry over to hengistbury head and you'll be able to see air show in bmth from there. Ferry is out the back gate, turn right walk to end of quay, on the left 👍🏻

Fatbelliedgirl · 17/08/2018 19:21

Church Farm (Haven Holidays) - Pagham, near Bognor Regis.
Rockley Park, Poole.
Somewhere around the New Forest.

Any of these might be good.

CruCru · 17/08/2018 19:25

What about the Isle of Wight?

Fatbelliedgirl · 17/08/2018 19:25

Or Brighton perhaps.

TeamRick · 17/08/2018 19:26

The. Bournemouth Air festival is on the weekend after the Bank holiday this year so you'll be ok! 👍

Fireworks91 · 17/08/2018 19:27

Isle of Wight, loads to do

JuneWhitfieldshandbag · 18/08/2018 08:46
