My dps grandmother has a few ivory items. Shes a collector of ornaments. She has offered some to my dp and he wants some of these trinkets for sentimental reasons.
I cant work out what the law is. Can he have them or is the law purely about selling. I doubt theyre proper antiques. Im a bit creeped out but these things would have sentimental value. Ive been trying to google whether its ilkegal but cant work out the law

I think the law is about selling them. Her gifting them to him isn't illegal. However he probably wouldn't be able to sell them should he choose too. I think the situation may be different if they predate the 1950s.

I believe, but may be wrong, that nothing made after 1947 can be sold. For personal ownership, probably OK.
