Following on from the Victorian dresses thread, which I found most interesting. Have you got any old photos to share? Victorian times to the 1950's? Would love to see them if you have.

This one is of my great great grandma, she was born in 1840, I'm not sure how old she was in this one, I'm guessing 40 ish?

I have a photo of my great grandparents with my grandfather as a baby. I'll dig it out later and share :)

No unfortunately but I wish I did. My dad showed me one that he had of his granddad and his mum as a child. She was born in 1919 though so the photo must've been taken in the mid 1920s so a bit later than the Victorian period. His grandad had a massive handlebar mustache and he looks like he should be called Edward but was in fact called Dave (not David, unusually, for the time he was alive). It wasn't a stiff, formal portrait either; it looked quite relaxed and informal. My great-granddad was crouching down and my nannan was on his knee.

I’ve got a couple from the 50s upstairs somewhere. Will have a look in a bit.

Love old photos!

This is one taken probably in about 1958ish. My mum and her siblings outside their house. It always makes me laugh because they look like a right bunch of street urchins!

It wasn't a stiff, formal portrait either; it looked quite relaxed and informal. They're great those ones aren't they, usually they all look so serious. Smile

This dates back to 1913, and is of my grandmother and great grandmother on the occasion of my grandmother being presented at court.

Hello bof! Long time no see

I don't have any here but my mother has great Ines of my g grandma. My gran was born in 1910; there's one of her as a baby with g grandmas looking lovely (3 kids) then one a few years later where she's aged about 3 decades in 8 years (8 kids by then).

I think they say a lot about how hard ordinary women's lives were.

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 15/08/2018 23:17

My great grandma and grandad who came over to the uk from Co. Wexford in Ireland in the late 1800s. My Great Grandad got a job in the shipyards in the North of England.
My Grandma , who died before I was born, is at the back between her parents. It's uncanny how much she looks like me when I was her age.

Placemarking as I have a lovely photo of my grandmother from the 1930s which I must post once I find it!

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 15/08/2018 23:42

Here's one of my grandma.

A Gibson Girl, judging from the hairstyle.

The double pram too Smile

It does show, that nothing is really new.

I like old photographs/letters (post cards), especially, when a MNetter needs help. Smile

Apollogies that I have no photos to add to the thread. Sad

Flo All I do is roughly date the last photo to the 20s-very early 4os. Sorry about that.

Can I urge you all to upload these to Ancestry? Even if you just take out the two week free trial. It's a great way to share them with other (distant) relatives so they can see what their ancestors looked like (and vice versa)

If that seems too much faff please at least write on the back of them who they are (first name and surname). I have a small stack of pictures of people I presume to be relatives but I haven't a clue who they are because there's no writing on the back (or, in some cases, a helpful relative has written "me in x location". Thankfully I already know who that person is!
