Following on from the Victorian dresses thread, which I found most interesting. Have you got any old photos to share? Victorian times to the 1950's? Would love to see them if you have.

This one is of my great great grandma, she was born in 1840, I'm not sure how old she was in this one, I'm guessing 40 ish?

This is one of my favourites, my great grandmother and my granny. It was taken in July 1916.

These are so nice to look at. Given me shivers for some reason.

Grandadwasthatyou My grandad also worked in the shipyards in the North East, Sunderland, he was a riveter.

That's a good tip AvocadosBeforeMortgages I'll definitely write their names on the back of them. Funny, I have an album of my nans, she has the names written on them. I thought she may have done it so she wouldn't forget.

My paternal grandmother. Taken around 1912 when she was 18.

When clearing out a load of mums stuff we found a small gold locket with a photo of a young soldier (well worn as if rubbed a lot) and wedged behind to keep it in place was a circle of a few sheets cut out of a newspaper from WW1 (worked out from the tiny bits we could read and piece together).

No one has a clue who he was though.

This is my gorgeous Aunt in her heyday. Pics were taken during the war. She is 96 now and still has fabulous glowing unlined skin.

We have these two in our downstairs toilet. The first is my partners great great Grandad, and the other one is his great great great Grandad. I will find more when he wakes up, he does his family tree and is as fair back at 1600.

This is my great grandmother's father. He was queen Victoria's postilion, so he had his photograph taken. I think the picture is touched up by oil drawing that's faded over time. I don't know the exact date of the picture but my great grandmother was born probably around 1870-80. The back has all the details of the photographer.

he does his family tree and is as fair back at 1600. Oh wow, that's a good way back. I got stuck at 1840. My great grandad was born in India so that made things more difficult. Is your partner hoping to get back any further still?

This is a photo of my Grandma, on the left, with her sister seated - in about 1900. Grandma was eighteen years younger than her sister and was born the week before her sister got married. I love the hats!

*Sorry, Grandma standing on the right!

Vitalogy · 19/08/2018 17:49

I turned my puter sideways, I could see just fine Smile

They're fantastic hats aren't they.

The man in the uniform is my great grandfather, the woman sitting before him is his wife. They married in 1908. The boy whose shoulder he is touching is not his son. It is family, but I do not know, if the couple in the middle are her or his parents. And I'll probably never find out.

Also this is my grandfather's youngest sister. I don't know how my grandmother got her picture. Her name was Catherine and she went missing during the war. It's a story that bothers me and it bothered my grandma because her family didn't try to find her, or even report her missing. They were very dismissivd and said she eloped with a G.I. but who knows? I've wondered about trying to find out. My grandma gave me the picture and we have it up, hence the glass reflection.

LinoleumBlownapart · 19/08/2018 18:17

Sorry here's the picture

wibywobblyfish your picture is just lovely.

This photo is of my 3x great grandmother who died in 1879.

It seems really odd to me that this is a photo of her. It must have been hugely expensive back then, I'd love to know how she got her photo taken.

Knitjob · 19/08/2018 18:40

Photo!

Knitjob · 19/08/2018 18:41

Have I posted my photo 3 times or not at all? 😁

tierraJ · 19/08/2018 18:49

I collect old Victorian, Edwardian & ww1 era photos - cdv & cabinet cards they're called.
I get a lot from eBay.
I have several albums of them!

I often wonder about the people in the photos. I love the old clothes.

Vitalogy · 19/08/2018 19:06

I can understand why that would bother you LinoleumBlownapart How strange.

Ah, I can't see the photo yet Knitjob

They are fascinating aren't they tierraJ I can't quite put my finger on why but they are.
