Lyme disease help

Full disclosure: I have anxiety. Was bitten by a tick at the beginning of June in my garden. No symptoms since but now I have some kind of flu type virus with aching muscles, headache etc.

GP says it's just a virus. Should I pushing for Lymes testing? I've googled and I know symptoms of Lymes can come on months later but in the cases I've read about most of the later symptoms are more severe - facial paralysis, heart issues etc.

Really not sure what to do. Do I just wait and see if this virus goes? I've only had it about four days.

I'd push for the blood test and a course of antibiotics in case. If it's treated early, there should be no issue.

I said that and she said the blood test isn't reliable and I shouldn't take antibiotics needlessly

To come back if virus doesn't go away

And it's already not early treatment really as bite was nearly 2 months ago

I would ask for a blood test, but these aren't always conclusive. I had a friend, even though they thought it was Lyme's disease couldn't be 100% certain, they treated him for it, but it took about 4 to 5 months for him to recover, only after his recovery did they actually diagnose it. Did you advise the GP you had had a tick bite?

The blood test isn't infallible but it is hardy pointless! I'd ask again.

Hardly*

The blood test isn't completely reliable, no but it's a damn sight more reliable than no blood test while also being symptomatic. I agree with not taking antibiotics needlessly but the results of the blood test will surely tell if there's a need.

I'd go back tomorrow and ask to see another GP for a second opinion. This may well be just a virus but you should absolutely have the blood test.

I think your anxiety is playing a part. It is prob just a wee virus that will pass...

brokenbottleneck · 15/08/2018 12:16

GP said if I still had the virus after 10 days I should go back and then they would consider testing for Lymes

Yes she knows I had a tick bite
