Anyone know what this is?

De-cluttering and want to find out what type of ornament this is, not quite decided if I'm ready to part with it just yet.

Inherited from my grandmother and I can always remember it being on show so dates pre-1980's. Tried every combination of descriptions on google and eBay to see what it is so hopefully someone on MN can help!

TIA

I rather like it! No idea what it's really meant to be, but I wonder if it was either a fruit bowl or a 'flower bowl' (where you'd float flower heads in the water). But I'm sure you've already thought of those.

Couchpotato3 · 15/08/2018 10:21

Any markings on it to indicate maker?

PanPanPanPing · 15/08/2018 10:25

Ooh. I've just Googled '1970's glass flower bowl' and got this www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1835&bih=1093&ei=cfBzW_SMJ46XlwSH2LiwDA&q=1970s+glass+flower+bowl&oq=1970s+glass+flower+bowl&gs_l=img.12...2242.12743.0.14788.31.15.3.13.1.0.136.962.8j6.14.0....0...1ac.1.64.img..1.15.816...0j0i30k1j0i8i30k1.0.lD--0lycQhw#imgrc=_

The first (top left) one has similar colouring, but a different shape, and is Murano glass. Did you grandparents ever go to Venice for a holiday?

It comes in a green and gold colour way as well.

Not sure what it is, we sued to have one but worth less than £10 (unless this colour way is unusual) and probably won't sell on eBay due to posting weight.

I would stick it in my glass kiln and melt it. Grin

You could post the picture on this thread as well www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3336360-Seriously-tacky-and-grim?msgid=80234374 - not that I'm suggesting that your glass bowl is tacky and grim - but while people are reminiscing about stuff from the 70s/80s, someone might recognise it Grin

Ooh thank you all.
Grandparents did holiday in Venice, I think on cruises. I also have a purple and black one so they must have appealed at the time.

You have been very helpful, it is a red and yellow flame Murano. Found this which is similar.

Don't think I'm going to sell just yet, just need to find somewhere high up away from the nearly-crawling Twins.

X-post @PanPanPanPing .... i admit it is a bit tacky 70's but I have fond childhood memories of spinning it around by each end on DG's coffee table Blush
