How much do you spend on yourself?

unadventuretime · 14/08/2018 15:16

Just that really.

So how much do you spend on yourself each month? Including things like:

  • hobbies
  • socialising
  • hair and beauty
  • clothes
  • holidays without your family (ie not family holidays)
  • your personal mobile phone
  • random treats just for you
  • presents for people from you alone (ie not presents for your DC's friends etc)
  • books

My budget is £60/month. This seems like a lot to me Blush. I do manage to spend it though Blush.

A lot but I have recently separated from my husband so things are about to change drastically.

£34 a month gym
£100 clothes
£60ish on beauty treatments
£80 or so on going out/dinner/drinks
£20 or so on gifts

I go on a couple of weekends away with friends a year- probably works out about 2 x £300, we pay it bit by bit.

Just did a new budget, hoping I'll have about £200/£250 for personal spends once are finances are settled. A long way off.

GandolfBold · 14/08/2018 15:35

£6 a week yoga class and £4.10 a week to swim on a Saturday morning.

£17 a month for my mobile phone

Probably about £5 a month on books from ebay.

£27 a month for moisturiser Blush

Tend to use birthday money for clothes.

Haven't had my hair cut since Christmas because I always feel so awkward at the salon.

KatieMM · 14/08/2018 15:35

Very little tbh.
Haircut 20 every month.
Clothes - can't remember when I bought any last.
Social life - occasional get together 20, every few months.
Phone 8 a month, sim only.

All sounds a bit depressing. I'm working full time but just don't have much left to spend. Every bit of spare cash is either saved or spent on my teenagers. I'm a single parent now, cash was easier when we were together. Kids say they don't care about it but I do feel like they are missing out. Esp when I know their father has money but choses not to support them in any way.

ShirleyPhallus · 14/08/2018 15:39

Ummm quite a lot.

£240 pm on a PT
£150 on dance classes / gym membership
£60-80 on massage
£40 on bikini wax
£50 on gel nails and toes
£350 every 8 months on hair
I guess £50pm on products (particularly my hair which is curly and very dry!)
No set budget for clothes but I only buy nice pieces to last as otherwise my home gets overwhelmed with shit
£20per week on flower delivery

Which seems a lot, but I get paid well and work hard (for the most part) in quite a stressful job so like to invest in myself

bellsbuss · 14/08/2018 15:43

Nails £25 or £50 if feet as well
Hair £70
Breakfast once a week with friends £40
Lunch once a week with friends £80
Dinner with friends once a month £50
Facial £40
Beauty products £60
Drinks with friends once a month £50
Clothes £100-£150

Tbh I'm quite shocked now I've added it up , more than I was expecting

Bunnyrabbitbinkyhouse · 14/08/2018 15:43

£17 a month mobile
£60 a month socialising
£100 a month clothes
£10 a month makeup/perfume
Plus other bits and bobs
So about £200 a month
I also have a brand new car every 2 years which is a complete extravagance as I can walk to work but I like my own little car and independence, so I save towards my next new car every month too
My kids are adults now, the mortgage is paid off I have very little outgoings
If I want something I have it (within reason) but I also save around £700 a month
I earn about £1100 a month

SleepingBooty · 14/08/2018 15:45

I didn't think I spent all that much tbh but it does add up.
£31 Gym
£35 Hairdressers
£20 clothes (average over a few months)
£20 going out (average over a few months)
£30 mobile phone
£5-10 beauty products

Bunnyrabbitbinkyhouse · 14/08/2018 15:47

Op £60 a month? That’s nothing, £15 a week on all the things you listed?
I bought a double pink gin the other night and it was £8, how do you socialise with £15 a week

mightbemarkedforever · 14/08/2018 15:47

I didn't realise but actually quite a bit

£190 every 6 -9 weeks for hair
£70 a month for two manicures
£60 a week on massage and chiropractor
£50 a week on wine
£100 Ish a month on makeup / creams?
£200 on laser
£15 on a blow dry

Not sure how much I spend on going out but it's not millions and then I only go away with my husband and son so it doesn't count

Say £75 going out?

MrsA6 · 14/08/2018 15:49

Currently on mat leave so not going out as much but before DS born:

Haircut £20
Waxing £10
Mobile £12.50
Gym £20
Socialising £20+
Clothes £20

SoyDora · 14/08/2018 15:51

Varies really. My personal mobile comes out of household expenses.
Gym membership £30
Clothes maybe £50 a month (don’t buy stuff every month but occasionally have a splurge)
£15 on make up
Socialising maybe £60
Coffee and cake while out and about maybe £20
Have the occasional massage/beauty treatment and haircuts every 3 months.
Probably about £200 a month on average.

Bineverywhere · 14/08/2018 15:51

About £700. That's mostly hobbies as I'm a single parent so I don't socialise or have trips away. I've got enough clothes to last 6 lifetimes.

unadventuretime · 14/08/2018 15:53

Thanks for all the replies so far Smile. I don't feel too bad about struggling to stay within my £60 now. Of that about £30 goes on my hobby, £5 on presents (averaged out), £5 on makeup (averaged), £5 phone top up (averaged) and the rest on books or charity shop clothes. I'm introverted and don't do socialising except with other parents during the day time at parks, each other's houses etc.. My exercise is walking and I get a family member to trim my hair now and then.

OP posts:
SoyDora · 14/08/2018 15:53

Actually add another £50 on for yoga classes

BackinTimeforTea · 14/08/2018 15:56

I spend more on the dc but it’s definitely over £60pm, when you add in wine, food that I eat mostly and others don’t, as well as clothes, shoes, makeup, books it must be £200 pm.

I will keep a closer eye!

unadventuretime · 14/08/2018 15:57

Bunnyrabbitbinkyhouse

Sorry didn't see your post before I wrote my last one! I don't really socialise tbh, I'm very introverted and happiest at home with my family and hobbies. When I do see friends it's usually at each other's houses or doing free things like going for walks together.

3WildOnes · 14/08/2018 15:58

Coffee and cake with friends once or twice a week £25 p/m
Brunch or lunch once a week with friends £60 p/m
Dinner or drinks with friends a couple of times a month £60 p/m
Gym £50
Breaks a couple of times a year £40 p/m
Presents £25 p/m
Mobile £25 p/m
Clothes £40 p/m
Beauty £30 p/m
Hair £40 p/m

So roughly £395 per month

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/08/2018 15:59

Me and DH currently get £100/week to do whatever with. I tend to have maybe £30 left at the end of the week. Looking back at my app lately I’ve spent on the usual books, coffees, Pilates etc, but also donated £10 to a friend’s sponsored event, paid for Creche, couple things from sains when I couldn’t find my other card. So it’s not exact.

Bunnyrabbitbinkyhouse · 14/08/2018 15:59

Fair enough 🙂
I don’t often pay £8 for a drink I usually head for spoons!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/08/2018 16:00

Also buy toys for the kids with that money if the other account is a bit tight/I feel frivolous/guilty!

Nuffaluff · 14/08/2018 16:01

Quite a bit.
Gym membership £36
Writing class £40
Choir £10
Singing lessons £40
Socialising probably about £70
Hair £30
Magazine subscription £6
Beauty box £11
Clothes £50
Other stuff £20
Almost £300! Selfish me!
Actually I could cut down a bit - we’re not saving anything.

Maverick66 · 14/08/2018 16:04

Haircut and colour £30pm
Gym £32 per month
Hobby £5 per month
Magazine £5 per month
Cosmetics £10 per month

theunsure · 14/08/2018 16:12

Mine is a bit skewed because no DC and I earn substantially more than DH and had an expensive "hobby" before we met. We split household bills but not all money so I have more spare than him.

  • hobbies - I have a horse and she costs a whopping £500 pcm on average it is probably a hell of a lot more
  • socialising - very little due to said horse. Probably about £30 pcm max
  • hair and beauty - average of £50pcm on hair (I have it cut and coloured regularly but not every month). Practically £0 on beauty as I wear little make up and don't have nails done etc.
  • clothes - not much, probably spend £100 every few months on essentials. So allow £30-£40pcm
  • holidays without your family (ie not family holidays) - I go away with a group of friends every few years which costs about £1500. So averaged out £40pcm
  • your personal mobile phone - £15 for SIM only as out of contract
  • random treats just for you - £20?
  • presents for people from you alone (ie not presents for your DC's friends etc) - £50 roughly
  • books - £0 as I usually read recycled ones from family/friends. Rarely buy new.

So that is about £735-£745 but if you take the horse out as she skews it a lot it is about £235-245. The horse is why I am poor (but happy).

theunsure · 14/08/2018 16:16

I meant to add - I see a chiro and have a sports massage one month manipulation the next. Average £40.

I also give about £50pcm to charity and £22.50 average on lotto/euromillions.

So added up it is about 1/4 of my take home pay. Another 2/4 goes on bills and that leaves 1/4 for savings. In theory.

TokyoSushi · 14/08/2018 16:17

I wish it was more!!

£40 on exercise classes
£50 on socialising
About another £30 on 'miscellaneous'
