Apparently she is receiving hospice care.

Go gently sweet Aretha, your wonderful voice has been on the soundtrack for most of my life.

I'll say a little prayer for you, as will many more.

Oh bless her....Sorry to hear this - such a wonderful voice.

cantfindname · 14/08/2018 09:44

How sad. I hope she is pain free and slides gently away. xx

D0do · 14/08/2018 09:57

So sad. There's a thread in Feminist Chat about her too, with a link to , which has got me blubbering away like nobody's business. What a voice, what a woman.

The blonde woman in the audience is Carole King, who wrote the song (for Aretha, I think) and is an old friend.

The Queen of soul. Just hope she isn't suffering and is at peace.

UselessTrees · 16/08/2018 15:22

Just seen that her death has been announced. A sad loss to the world.

D0do · 16/08/2018 15:25

Rest in peace, Aretha. This has hit me quite hard, I suppose because these are dark times and we can't easily spare someone who had so much to give the world. 76 is no age these days.

Onesmallstepforaman · 16/08/2018 15:26

The first female soul singer I ever bought. Some brilliant collaborations too.

IndigoSpritz · 16/08/2018 15:34

Carole King wrote the song but Aretha Franklin firmly took possession of 'Natural Woman'.
They should have heard her coming a mile off upstairs !

MonsteraDeliciosa · 16/08/2018 15:45

RIP Aretha, thanks for the music.

Enko · 16/08/2018 15:46

Cocolepew · 16/08/2018 15:54

Gutted here too, Magic Soul is playing her every other song.

ChateauRouge · 16/08/2018 15:56

Such a loss, what a voice. Sad

xsquared · 16/08/2018 16:56

Amazing singer. There are not many artists of her calibre today, if any. She will be missed.

MoonriseKingdom · 16/08/2018 17:00

So sad to hear this.

I love her in ‘Blues Brothers’ singing ‘Think’.

Dumela · 16/08/2018 17:07

Dios sea Contigo Flowers

Ifailed · 16/08/2018 17:10

There are not many artists of her calibre today

Agree, she could actually sing.

PavlovianLunge · 16/08/2018 17:11

It’s sad, but what a life and what a body of work she’s left behind. She’ll be remembered and enjoyed for generations.

Worldpeace123 · 16/08/2018 17:24

I once worked for a celebrity with whom she shared her birthday and yes, they were great friends. Apparently, her birthday parties were something out of this world.
Legend.

woman11017 · 16/08/2018 17:43

One of my favourites here; O Happy Day, with the great Mavis Staples. RIP Queen of Soul. Loved her all my life.

specialsubject · 16/08/2018 18:30

proper singing with different notes and understandable lyrics. doesnt happen now.

and kids at 12 and 14 - respect indeed for surviving a start like that.
