How can I get rid of my cold quickly? Worried my surgery next week will be cancelled!

For the last 3 days I've woken up with a sore throat and stuffy nose, but then it's been ok once I'm up and about.

Tonight though, I'm starting to feel unwell with it, and my throat is bright red. I'm having a c-section next week so I'm worried they'll cancel it if I'm unwell Sad

So what can I do to either help the cold fully develop so I'm over it quicker?

Vitamins, honey, lemon and ginger steeped in water, rest!

Echinacea really helps

Gargle with corsodyl mouthwash. Kills germs at back of your throat.

I think you have to be pretty bad and with a fever for them to worry about it. I had a viral throat infection when I went in for my hysterectomy and they were not bothered in the slightest.

Having said that, in the meantime, i would recommend eating well and lots of rest and as little stress as possible. Good luck!

That's reassuring wonder, as I assumed if my throat was swollen they would cancel it as it might make it harder to intubate me.

Will try the other suggestions too - thank you.

Keep extra hydrated. Even slightly dehydrated will make it worse

Dairy products create mucus so if you try and avoid them it might help. I found this out when I went vegan and stopped getting horrendous colds! It works for my non vegan kids too.

Thanks both.
Things are still exactly the same - feel full of cold with a sore throat when I wake up and in the evenings, but fine during the day.
I just wish it would either full develop into a cold so I can get over it, or just bugger off!

Hopefully I'll be ok for next week though.
