Oh no! Tonic water crisis!

There's no tonic water!

I was really looking forward to my G&T.

Alternatives?

Do you have anyone you can send to the shop? I'd be distraught!

glenthebattleostrich · 13/08/2018 20:43

Lemonade, soda with a twist of lemon or lime, drink it neat depending on how bad a day you've had 😁

CrispbuttyNo1 · 13/08/2018 20:44

Any cordial/squash. I love Waitrose grapefruit squash with gin.

Nacreous · 13/08/2018 20:46

Gin and fruit juice is always nice.

foodiefil · 13/08/2018 20:47

No shop nearby?!

Lemonade but not the same

fussychica · 13/08/2018 20:48

Lemonade with angostura bitters, though better with tonic when you get some, grown up tasting even without the gin.

PutItAwayDear · 13/08/2018 20:48

Elderflower!

JellySlice · 13/08/2018 20:53

No chance of a shop.

Nothing fizzy in the house.

Drink it neat? Envy (that's not jealousy!)

No juice in the house.

I have got citrus fruit.

If it's good with Angostura - which I don't have, either - I wonder whether it would be good with gazpacho? A sort of gin Bloody Mary?

I shall report back!

Pomegranatemolasses · 13/08/2018 20:56

It woulds be delicious imo. Nothing worse than gin with no tonic!

Nacreous · 13/08/2018 20:56

Ooh you can do a gin with fresh lemon drink I think, let me find the recipe.

ClaireFraser · 13/08/2018 20:59

Gin and elderflower is delicious, also gin and ginger (ale or beer). Although not v helpful suggestions if you have nothing fizzy I the house at all! Sorry OP I feel your pain!

JellySlice · 13/08/2018 21:03

Nope, a Bloody Ginny does not work. It just made the gazpacho taste vaguely soapy. BTW I highly recommend the Costco gazpacho - very nice (without gin, that is!).

There is some cordial somewhere...

Bees knees (gin, lemon, honey mixed with a tiny bit of water to loosen enough for mixing, ice) or a gimlet (gin, lime, sugar syrup, ice).

AdaColeman · 13/08/2018 21:09

Dry Martini?

Negroni? (Campari, red vermouth, gin)

WildIrishRose1 · 13/08/2018 21:09

A negroni?

AdaColeman · 13/08/2018 21:11

Pour it over lemon or raspberry sorbet, let it melt slightly.

IndigoApple · 13/08/2018 21:22

I would also be distraught! I try to keep Fever Tree cans in the fridge at all times, although they're extortionate (thanks to sugar tax! Hmm). However I think of the suggestions above, a gimlet sounds good!

JellySlice · 13/08/2018 21:36

Cordial - nope. A bit icky.

G & Fever Tree T. Just has to be.

OP posts:
JellySlice · 13/08/2018 21:38

Hmmm, might try a Gimlet. I've got a lime. No sugar syrup, but I've got glucose food-glue which might work as a substitute.

DumbledoresApprentice · 13/08/2018 21:38

I love a gimlet. Lime juice, sugar syrup and gin.

Peachpebbles · 13/08/2018 21:40

This is a long shot... do you have a soda stream?

OverByYer · 13/08/2018 21:41

Cooled earl grey or chamomile tea, with a dash of prosecco?
I went to a gin festival a few weeks ago and they did a chamomile tea cocktail

Beach11 · 13/08/2018 21:44

Lemonade shortage too, love it with my gin

MsPavlichenko · 13/08/2018 21:45

Sugar syrup is usually sugar and water boiled then chilled. But in an emegency I have been known to mix it in a bottle and shake. Has worked.

mineofuselessinformation · 13/08/2018 21:54

Drink it the Portuguese way - with water!
