Hypothetical Wine Spillage Question

DH & I were at the self scan at the Supermarket yesterday & a woman at the next till dropped her bottle of red wine.

It smashed & DH ended up with the bottoms of his legs covered in wine (he had shorts on & no glass, so no harm done)

But we were talking on the way home in between me laughing at him about what would have happened if he had been at work, wearing his suit & it obviously would have had to be dry cleaned (& probably a new pair of trousers bought to get him through the day).

It goes without saying that it was an accident, but would DH just have had to suck it up & pay for things himself, or would the woman who spilled the wine have been expected to offer to pay, or would Tesco other Supermarkets are available have offered?

She might have offered but if she had I would have declined

That was my thinking stormy I really felt for her, she was so embarrassed. Everyone reassured her that we've all done something similar, but you could tell she just wanted to the ground to swallow her up.

I would probably expect them to offer a bit of money to cover the cost of dry cleaning or a cheap replacement to get through the day. But I wouldn't accept it unless I was desperately short of money and I wouldn't expect the full cost of a replacement.

Shit happens. IMO If you can't afford to replace something, you can't afford it (or should have insurance to protect it).
