... would you knock/garner information from neighbours before buying?

We have a new neighbour moving in who I met last week. Saw her this morning and asked how she was getting on. During the conversation I made reference to the underfloor heating being as much use as a chocolate teapot and expensive. I mentioned our first ever electric bill was £500 (winter 120 day invoice period) and that we soon turned it off and used electric heaters which heat the place brilliantly and are a fraction of the cost.

Neighbour said she had been wondering about the cost of the bills as she has no idea and would heed my advice.

It got me thinking - why don't people find out this information BEFORE buying? I know we didn't but our purchase was a repossession so we had no owners to ask. It just didn't occur to us to ask neighbours.

Its all good and well if you can afford the place, the service charge and the ground rent but if your electric is almost £2k a year because of the heating.....?
