Grommets or hearing aids

My daughter has glue ear and needs either grommets or hearing aids until she grows out of it. My inclination is to go for the least invasive option (especially as she may need a few sets of grommets) and choose hearing aids. I'm also concerned grommets would fall out too quickly with the amount of swimming she does. She wants hearing aids.

Has anyone else had to make the same decision and what did you choose?

I would go for hearing aids if we had the time again. My DD had 2 lots of grommets and is prone to many, many ear infections now. We were told they'd fallen out at some point - can't remember when - maybe 10? I'm not convinced the grommets worked particularly well because her hearing was poor throughout her childhood (she's now 21) but we didn't realise just how poor it was and to her of course, it was normal.

She struggled at school because of this and was always the quiet, subdued one who all the teachers ignored. She was put in lower sets than she should have been (still got to a RG uni though).

She finally got hearing aids about 3 months ago and it's made a huge difference. She is chattier, more confident and more vocal. So if your child has aids now, they are likely (IMHO) to benefit more now and be more aware of what is 'acceptable' hearing and what isn't.

@TwitterQueen1 thank you. I'm sorry your daughter had to struggle throughout her childhood though.

My daughter starts school in a few weeks and keen to get it sorted - I was quite surprised at the level of hearing loss she has. She likes playing alone (though has quite a lot of pre school friends she prefers one on one so gets left out when there's a group) and her speech isn't clear (though language good).

Seeing as she wants hearing aids (my nephew has them) I'm feeling it's worth trying them first.
