Would an online GP help me with this?

I have a chronic health condition which I’m on medication for. I requested a repeat prescription for one of the items but can’t get it without a review (the dose was changed by a locum, but this wasn’t recorded on the system so it shows as not due). I have enough for today only and have been told to phone at 8am tomorrow to try for an appointment. I thought if I couldn’t get through I would try push doctor or similar, but is this something they could actually help with? I’m willing to pay the ££ if it gets me my meds, but don’t want to waste my time if they can’t help.

Do you normally use the same pharmacist? Mine once gave me 2 days worth of medication to tide me over as he knew it was my regular prescription and the sirgery onfirmed an admin error on the phone.. he then took the 2 days out when the prescription came through. No idea if this was lawful but he probably savede a nasty experience and possibly a hospital stsy

I'm a practice nurse, usually if you tell reception that would honour you say a week prescription and book you in for your review at the same time. Even if the locum didn't change your repeat prescription to the new dose there will still be evidence that he increased it when you were there. Good luck

I went to the pharmacy to try to collect it on Saturday and they gave me a day’s emergency supply for today, so they’ve already done what they can. I then went to the surgery today thinking the receptionist could do that, but apparently the computer said no, and that all I could do was try for an appointment tomorrow. I also tried asking for a telephone consult this afternoon, but they’re too short of GPs. It’s just frustrating because I’ve been on this dose for ages and it’s never flagged up before, and I think if I stop taking it suddenly I’m going to feel really rubbish. That’s why I was prepared to pay if my own doc can’t help.

Only thing I would suggest is ring again and tell the receptionist you need it today and are happy to be booked in for review. Sometimes I think they fob people off with 'ring in the morning'. Just push it to be done today

My review dates coming up to 5 months over due. Have spoken to the gp about serious side effects and still not been asked to review them, he just told me to amend my daily dosage with whatever i was comfortable with and of course the next time my prescription was due the gp doing them that day said no... Our pharmacist was happy to give the prescription though with a call to the surgery

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 13/08/2018 16:19

I don’t know. I was speaking to the receptionist (in fact two different ones) for about 10 minutes this morning, and they were adamant there was nothing they could do.
If I can get an appointment tomorrow then obviously that’s fine, but if I can’t then I’m just looking for other options.
Has anyone ever used one of the online GP services? Is one better than the rest? Or would they not prescribe for a long term condition?

I’ll be honest I can get really anxious around these things, so if I knew that the private GP was a viable plan b then I would probably sleep a lot sounder tonight.

I've used them for various ailments. No problems at all. It's so frustrating when you can't get an appointment

BrazzleDazzleDay · 14/08/2018 19:36

Any luck op?

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 14/08/2018 19:56

Took over 250 calls(!) but got through to my GP this morning. They agreed to fax the prescription to the chemist in the end as there were no appointments. Still have to try and get a review within the next month, but at least sorted for now. Thanks!

Glad you got sorted, hope you get a review asap
