Slight Reflex

Hi all,

I am new to the site & a mum to a LG of almost 7 weeks old. I was hoping to get some advice on slight reflex.

I am exclusively pumping as I struggled to get my LO latched. In the last few weeks, I have introduced a few formula bottles per day to be able to keep up with baby’s demand. From introducing formula, I have found that it’s made her constipated & the only thing that seems to help is prune juice. I feel the best thing to do is too stick with it as I know her system needs to get use to formula as I don’t plan on expressing indefinitely.

Although .. my HV seems to think that she may have a slight reflex also as she can be unsettled during the day & doesn’t like lying on her back & seems to like being on her stomach or upright on my shoulder. Which are signs of a slight reflex? She also cry’s sore & stiffens when being lifted but then calms shortly after. The GP has prescribed infant gaviscon, which I have tried adding to her bottles but she is struggling to get the milk as the gaviscon makes it thicker. I have tried using a no.2 teat but the flow is too quick for her. I am unsure what to do. I know I can mix & try & give it to her on a spoon but I’m unsure if she even needs it as she is settled at night & sleeping well.

I have also reed that the gaviscon can cause constipated so I am after incase it causes more problems. Could she just be demanding attention during the day & wants lifted or is it worth a go incase she does have a slight reflex?

Thanks,
Joanne
