Simple as that.

I haven’t bought one for years. I’d just forgotten they were even a thing. Our TVs are on all the time. Maybe husband buys it (unlikely). No inspectors ever come round. Confused

I don't. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime and don't want to watch anything on BBC. We don't have a good enough signal from our TV aerial to pick up live TV and haven't felt the need to have it sorted out since it stopped working about four years ago.

I gave up watching tv a year ago due to the crap that was been offered to us.
Don't miss it and my life is better for not wasting my time having my intelligence insulted by the BBC.

It seems to be a badge of honour on here to not watch any BBC content.

"Don't miss it and my life is better for not wasting my time having my intelligence insulted by the BBC."

That's a bit of a blanket statement Hmm. Was there any need to be so sneery and patronising? Us lessser mortals who like watching programmes like Poldark, wildlife and history programmes aren't intelligent?

People pay to watch Netflix and Sky. I don't have them, and am happy to pay to have access to live TV, including BBC programmes.

Based on what I read here, I'd say it was unusual not to listen to BBC Radio.

I am guessing here but I can honestly say that BBC's top shows like Strictly, Eastenders, Dr Who, Match of the Day, Dragon's Den, The Apprentice are of no interest here. I used to watch Bake Off and Sherlock but the former is on Channel 4 and I would pay to stream (or buy the box set) of the latter.

I like the crime dramas that are shown on BBC4. They make the licence worth paying for IMO.

slithytove · 12/08/2018 23:37

Nope, we don’t have/use freeview - only watch catch up (not bbc) Netflix, YouTube and prime. Via PlayStations. Don’t listen to radio unless in car, and then it’s not bbc.

Freedom is sweet.

I listen to the local BBC radio station when driving to work. It is much better than the local commercial stations for travel, weather and other local updates like school closures. It was invaluable when we had the horrendous floods 11 years ago, and the awful winter just gone. And no pesky adverts.

I listen to R2 as well, and Classic FM sometimes.

We have Amazon Prime, but don't find much that we want to watch on it, except for Ripper Street when that was on.

I don't have a tv licence haven't had one for years, i refuse to pay for people like Gary Linekar who earns over £1m a year to talk about football, cut celebrity salaries then i might pay.

If you're watching any channels (even non BBC) you legally need a licence. It doesn't matter if they are Sky, Freeview, Virgin, digital, etc.

If you watch iplayer you now need a licence - it didn't used to be that way if it was only catch up.

You can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, DVDs, use consoles attached to a TV to play games all without a TV licence. And radio programmes, including BBC radio stations and radio on iPlayer.

It's fine not to have one but you should be aware of what it is required for and what it isn't. I cancelled mine, and you can go and fill in a form online saying why you don't need one, they will stop harrassing you.
