Simple as that.

I don't have any ideological objection to the BBC. I used to watch some shows on iPlayer, but I haven't since they changed the rules. Being able to use iPlayer isn't worth the fee for me.

ChiaraRimini · 12/08/2018 18:20

@Mumshotel how much do you pay for amazon prime, Netflix and sky all together and how did you get a deal that is less than tv license cost (less than £160 a year IIRC) as that is an amazing bargain.
Or alternatively, someone who thinks the bbc are "peados" is talking out of their arse.

TheQueef · 12/08/2018 18:22

I cancelled and stopped watching with the JS events.

I may coincidently be at my DF when gardeners world is on but I don't miss it at all.

GeneandFred · 12/08/2018 18:22

We have one but we don't actually watch much TV. Just generally just watch Netflix.

Mumshotel · 12/08/2018 18:25

It is what i think. I only included price of sky t.v..not the other services. I dislike them for many reasons. And I object to the measures employed by them. You wouldn't get sky sticking their foot in your front door and frightening your kids. I very rarely watch I player and it's not worth the fee for me like another poster says. I am going to boycott it all together I think. I mostly watch netflix if I'm honest. It's worth the money.

If you don't watch TV at all or use iPlayer fine, but if you do you should get a license. Otherwise everyone else is subsidising you!

TheMotherofBears · 12/08/2018 18:30

Also for what it's worth I think Cbeebies is excellent.

OliviaBenson · 12/08/2018 18:31

If you have Sky then surely you need to pay for a licence?

KlutzyDraconequus · 12/08/2018 18:32

If the goons from capita come, don't even engage with them. Just close the door. If they put their foot there, slam the door as hard as you can.

EscapistTendencies · 12/08/2018 18:34

No I cancelled mine earlier this year after realising I'd only watched iplayer once in previous 12 months. Can happily live without it. I have 100's of boxsets and movies I can watch on now tv and netflix for less than the cost of a bbc licence. The cost of the services you receive are ridiculous compared to now tv/netflix .I bet plenty people still pay despite not watching live TV too. Not had any hassle yet but I expect I will at some point, I'll look forward to it tbh, they don't intimidate me.

NynaeveSedai · 12/08/2018 18:34

You can declare online that you don't need an licence and they will leave you alone.

SchrodingersMeowth · 12/08/2018 18:35

Nope, never had one since leaving home. Won’t touch live tv (why would you need to?) and don’t use iplayer.

Plenty of brilliant tv out there that isn’t BBC.

I also don’t get harassed as I phone them up every few years to tell them I don’t need one.

NynaeveSedai · 12/08/2018 18:35

Meant to add - the BBC need to find a relevant and workable form of payment for their services. The licence is out of date and overpriced.

NynaeveSedai · 12/08/2018 18:36

Why should she pay for a BBC licence for watching sky?

Vitalogy · 12/08/2018 18:41

You can declare online that you don't need an licence and they will leave you alone. They took no notice of this.

BuntyII · 12/08/2018 18:41

Oh fuck that reminds me I need to buy one

debbiet1980 · 12/08/2018 18:42

I got one though only because I was threatened with a £1000 fine if I didnt. Hate the fact we need to pay for watching BBC.

nicebitofquiche · 12/08/2018 18:45

I watch the bbc on tv. I use iplayer. I listen to bbc radio. I have a licence because I think I should contribute to the excellent dramas and documentaries they produce and I'm happy to do so. I'm not too happy about the ridiculous salaries presenters and newsreaders get though.

Vitalogy · 12/08/2018 18:49

I got one though only because I was threatened with a £1000 fine if I didnt. If you don't engage with them in any way they can't fine you. They send lots of threatening letters which are meaningless.

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 12/08/2018 18:51

Yes, down with the BBC and their paedo news Confused

CaveyLass · 12/08/2018 18:55

When we did have the telly in the previous house I don’t recall anything decent being on bbc. Just endless baking shows and a costume drama. I used to watch the news and that was it. The rest was dumbed down rubbish.

claireblueskies · 12/08/2018 18:57

I don't have a TV licence. And no, I don't watch live TV or iPlayer.

(Full disclosure: before they changed the loophole and made watching iPlayer licensable, I did use to watch it. But I don't miss it much.)

I primarily stopped watching live television because I morally object to the TV licence people and how they try to bully everyone into paying for something they don't necessarily use (guilty until proven innocent). I'd rather go without television than fund their shocking bully boy tactics.

I realise it's probably quite easy to watch TV without a licence, but I enjoy the smug moral victory from legitimately not needing a licence.

c3pu · 12/08/2018 18:58

I use the free BBC services all the time - I listen to Radio 1 and use the BBC news pretty much every day.

But I haven't watched live TV since my Freesat box stopped working, and I realised that it was totally uneconomical to buy a new one and a TV licence, for the tiny amount of TV I actually watched, when I could just use online streaming.

Dapplegrey · 12/08/2018 19:02

Thequeef what are JS events?
I've been wracking my brains - EU referendum, Queen's Jubilee, Olympic Games, Scottish referendum, World Cup, Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn etc but none of the initials work!

AngelsAckiz · 12/08/2018 19:02

Cancelled mine because we only watch Netflix and Amazon prime.
