Mortified she thought I was pregnant

So this morning I was in carpetright and I’m standing next to this lady (around the same age as me) looking at the carpets. She turned to me and said that she can buy a nice quality carpet now it’s just the 2 of them and her kids have moved out) I said oh I can’t do that yet (meaning I still have teenagers) and her reply was bless you I can see!

Mortified she must have thought I was pregnant! I’m nearly 49 and yes I have a bit of a tum but I’m not big. I’m 5”7 around 13 stone size 14.

I just had to share my story with someone. Feel fed up now

My mum was an experienced midwife. At her sister's funeral she mistakenly thought one of her late sister's daughters-in-law was pregnant. The daughter in law carrying her 3 month old baby.
People say stupid stupid things. When they are stressed or embarrassed or just not thinking.

Um, 13 st 14 would be 14 stone... Wink

LongSummerDays · 12/08/2018 17:17

Poo I misread it, sorry! Grin

My friend met my SIL who I can’t fucking stand pointed at her belly and said ‘aww when are you due?’
SIL glared at her and said ‘I’m not, DC is over there’

I was in a shop with my 10 DAY old twins. A lady looked in the pram and was cooing over them and asked how old they were. I said ‘10 days’ and she said ‘oh my god! And you’re preganant again?!’ Fucking dipshit obviously I just still had a big tummy from the preganancy because I’m not fucking Kate Middleton, but come on! People need to engage their brain.

Someone at work congratulated me on my pregnancy. I'm not pregnant. She then desperately tried to back track and say I didn't look pregnant but she had heard other people say I was, which made me feel even worse, and now I'm paranoid that everyone thinks I look pregnant. It was so excruciating. I just wanted her to stop talking and she just kept on making it worse Blush

SageYourResoluteOracle · 12/08/2018 17:35

Ouch! You poor thing- people should always refrain from such comments BUT look on the bright side: the woman thought you were young enough to be expecting and therefore probably thought you were a good few years younger than you are.
(Disclaimer: I know that pregnancy - ivf or not- isn't impossible at 49, but it'd be unusual so logic says that @mumma24 looks way younger than she is!)

PingusPaws · 12/08/2018 17:35

Ahh, sorry that happened OP. I can't remember which comedian it was who said "NEVER EVER congratulate a stranger on being pregnant, until you can actually see the babies head crowing" pity more people follow this tip.

ASpringerEspanya · 12/08/2018 17:39

I've had this more times than I care to remember :(

I carry all my weight on my tum.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 12/08/2018 17:39

I almost did this to someone yesterday Blush . Would honestly have put money on her being pregnant and quite far along too. Luckily text someone to ask first and she is most definitely not pregnant.
