Booster seats - any point in them?

Hi. I have a tall DS aged 8 (over 140 cm). He is well over the necessary height for a car seat but we still use a high backed booster seat for him as it is safer. We are going on holiday and do have a backless booster we could bring but I can’t work out whether it is actually any safer than no car seat at all for a child of his height. I obviously know they are banned for children under 125 cm. If it does provide some additional safety I will still bring it. Anyone know?

The point of booster seats is to make sure the seatbelt runs correctly over the child's shoulder not across their neck. DS is not quite so tall (135ish) but definitely needs one still. Partly depends on whether their height is in body or legs. I'd try out your child in your car without and with a booster and see how the belt runs. It's worth having a booster in the house anyway for the occasional giving or getting of lifts.

(Also keep an eye on any maximum height/weight listed for your seats.)

(Oh sorry I see you already have one...)
