Best way to listen to an audiobook on iPhone?

I'm off on holiday tomorrow. I've got two books to take but thought I'd download an audiobook to my phone.

I don't really want to subscribe to audible - is there's another way just to get an audiobook or two?

Thanks!

BorrowBox app is amazing. If your local library is linked up to it you can get audio books for free Smile

(There is a waiting time for some books, and not super recent releases - but still great for being free I think)

Or you might like to try RB digital if your library service subscribes to it. You need your library card number and your PIN number to log in. The App Store has the RB digital app. If you go on your libraries website it should tell you if they subscribe. They also provide magazines. Everything from women's weekly to new scientist. It's brilliant.

I borrow them from the library using the Overdrive app.

Another vote for BorrowBox! Just go to your local library, get a password you are ready to start choosing your audiobooks. Brilliant service.

Brilliant! Thank you so much! Just checked out the library and it does Libro and an audio book plus the magazines!

Might be worth trying YouTube to see if there's any on there? Or checking out the BBC website to see if they've done any audio books as a serialised thing on radio that you can download? I listened to all the Lord Peter Wimseys recently. Only downside of BBC is that you have credits every 30 minutes, but it wasn't particularly problematic.

Thanks so much for the heads up on Borrow Box! I've just signed up, downloaded a book and am off to listen to it in the bath.

I now have 2 audiobooks and 2 magazines

Thank you!

That RB digital app from local libraries has just featured in live well for less. 😊

Brilliant! I use it for magazines- it’s great.

For future reference you don't have to subscribe to audible you can just buy audio books through them as a one off. It can be much cheaper to subscribe though depending on the cost of the book you want. It's very easy to cancel and restart the subscription, and you don't lose access to any you've already got or anything like that.
