Block paving and weeds

Block paving is my biggest regret. I hate it
My garden is very long and I don't have time to look after it
Black paving with small bits of garden left was supposed to be the cure and it cost a small fortune
I hate it. It's always covered in weeds. I would rather have spent the time looking after a garden than bloody paving
Are there any easyish solutions
I have thought long term to add more bits of garden so the paving is more of a winding path than a big space

I would prefer eco friendly solutions too
I don't want to be putting tons of weed killer down if I can help it

Hate block paving , it's such high maintenance and a nightmare I'd it starts to get away from you ( and this can happen in a couple of weeks ) I've found the only answer is very regular sessions of pulling them up by hand before they seed (and make more ) then weed kill small ones

prettygreywalls · 12/08/2018 08:26

If not I'd

VickieCherry · 12/08/2018 08:26

Leave the weeds and accept the wild look.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 12/08/2018 08:27

Get a weed burner.

Potentialmadcatlady · 12/08/2018 08:30

Cover the weeds/blocks in cheap white vinegar

MissMarplesKnitting · 12/08/2018 08:31

Weed burner!

So massively satisfying to use.

Bonus is they're superb for lighting fire pits and charcoal BBQS too.

FesteringCarbuncle · 12/08/2018 08:32

I have a weed burner
It takes ages. It is a very big space
The burner only takes the tops off and takes hours
Boiling water worked but again takes hours
I've tried a mix of salt and vinegar in hot water but it didn't do much

I’ve got a stiff brush with a blade on one side which scrapes all the weeds out then put lots of salt down to kill the weeds.

It’s a pain in the arse but saves lots of weed killer being used (neighbourhood cats are in and out of our garden and I worry about accidentally poisoning them).

To clear it all in one go I pressure wash first to blast it all if that’s an option for you?

FesteringCarbuncle · 12/08/2018 08:34

Perhaps just vinegar
I hate it. So much effort
I should have stuck to garden. At least effort is put into something which is growing

Bleach on the weeds will kill them. That's what most councils use when they are out spraying.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/08/2018 09:09

We brush cheap salt from morrisons over using a yard brush. Twice a year is enough.

Not toxic to bees either.

CoxwellHuge · 12/08/2018 10:43

Not necessary a cheap solution but you can buy a sealant to paint over the block paving which stops seeds penetrating the sand and growing. It's clear but comes in Matt or shiny finish. The brand I have used is called Resiblock but there may be others on the market by now.

Beetlebum1981 · 12/08/2018 10:55

We've tried the sealant on our block paving and it hasn't stopped the weeds ☹️ I too hate it, previous owners had it done and it must has cost them a fortune as it wraps around 1/2 the house. I'd much rather have tarmac!

flopsyrabbit1 · 12/08/2018 10:56

i love my block paving though i use weedkiller twice a year and hardly any weeds now,its just being consistent and once in control takes very little effort
