Driving test

So I have my driving test in just over a week. I’m slightly panicking (ok not slightly, completely more like).

I had a lesson yesterday, which was rained off due to a horrendous downpour (could not see a thing) I’ve literally got one 2 hour lesson next week, then another the day before my test. And yet, I’ve just realised that we haven’t gone through any show me tell me questions at all, I have no idea where anything is and I’m completely freaking out... no practice test runs or anything, I’ve had about 20 lessons so far... is this normal? Hubby said I’m an absolute nightmare to live with at the moment as stressing out about it Confused

Any advice will be very well received....

No, I failed. 1 major and 1 minor Sad oh well back to lessons!

Aww it's shit @mummytoc, I've been there 3 times so I feel for you but just get back in for it. What did you fail on? My first was treating a double roundabout as 1 and not stopping for a car which was about to cross my path on it AND not turning right when it was my turn. So I failed pretty spectacularly that time. 2nd was I was turning left at a junction and didn't keep tight enough to the kerb so swung out too much (silly mistake as I never, ever do that on lessons) and third was a good test but on the reverse around a corner I didn't do enough observations so didn't see a car til it was right beside me. And I also racked up quite a few minors on every test!! So, I'm pretty shit but I have to keep going, I've spent too much to get to this point.

We will get it at some stage!!

thebird93 · 21/08/2018 13:39

Sorry you fail, but don't be disheartened by it. I had three tests in the end and just kept on plugging away until I got it right. One minor..!!! Remember that bit and get booking the next test. The freedom of driving is amazing you just need to keep focused on that.

Hogtini · 21/08/2018 15:17

Ahh sorry. 1 minor is amazingly good! Hope you're not too disheartened?
I'm on my 4th attempt soon..the nerves are making me make stupid mistakes! We'll get there Cake

ArseholesOnToast · 21/08/2018 15:23

Aw OP I failed my first driving test with one minor and one major too.

I passed second go with four minors less than three weeks after first failing....with the same examiner too!

I was so much better the second time as I knew what to expect more.

mummytoc · 21/08/2018 16:41

Thanks everyone, for sharing your stories and being amazingly supportive :-) i was advised not to tell anyone about my test which I didn’t so can’t even commiserate Blush i accidentally veered over a line at a roundabout (well known for being horrendous for everybody I know who drives) and caused another vehicle to slow down so was instantly failed. I’m pretty sure the examiner rolled her eyes and sighed, exactly how I was feeling! My examiner told me to go and book next exam ASAP but at the moment I don’t feel like it ... Sad

BarbraDear · 21/08/2018 19:09

I didn't want to even go on a lesson after I failed first time so I definitely understand. And then I was more nervous on my second test because I knew how many things they were looking at and how easily I could fail. Just bite the bullet and book and then get out on a lesson again.

I was a lot more confident over this weekend and kept thinking that this is my last test, I will get it this time etc but I've just been told today my Dad has got some very serious health news and I had a lesson straight after in which I just felt overwhelmed and made so many mistakes. So I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's test now but will have to try to clear my mind and get on with it.

mummytoc · 21/08/2018 21:21

Oh goodness Barbradear, what bad timing Sad I wish you all the luck in your test, despite the circumstances. Will you let me know how it goes?

BarbraDear · 22/08/2018 00:32

I can't sleep!! Have taken my anxiety meds so hopefully can get some sleep soon. Of course I will post tomorrow and let you know, hopefully it'll be good news :)

blamethecat · 22/08/2018 10:39

Good luck barbra

BarbraDear · 22/08/2018 18:19

Thanks blame, sadly another fail for me :( A dangerous fault on a roundabout by taking the wrong lane and he had to pull the wheel to keep me from going into the lane where another car had come round pretty fast. He said if the other car hadn't been there I could have just went on round and come off at the right exit but because it was there it was potentially an accident caused by me. He even said he felt really bad for me as we were 2 mins from the end of the test and I had passed til then.

Gutted today far more than any of the others.

Have you rebooked @mummytoc?

mummytoc · 22/08/2018 20:04

Oh Barbradear. I’m so sorry. Sad Sounds eerily similar to how I did yesterday Shock how are you feeling about it? I was ok until the evening where I was explaining it to my husband and had a good ol cry Blush I haven’t rebooked it yet, can’t bring myself to do it. Maybe next week I’ll look at it again. Big squishy hugs xxx

OP posts:
BarbraDear · 22/08/2018 23:23

Yep, I've had a good cry, I'm just so disheartened and feel like I must be shit if I can't get it 4th time round. I've replayed it over and over just thinking how stupid I was to make that mistake. I haven't even talked about it to my partner yet apart from over text when I got home after it and then he rang me to say ;don't worry you'll get it next time' and I was sniffling away down the phone so he knows I'll tell him all about it in the next day or so when I'm not feeling sorry for myself.

When I'd been home an hour or so I then realised I'd gotten out of my instructors car after the test without paying him at all! So I definitely need to get out on a lesson very soon to get him paid (I text him, he said not to worry he;d get it next lesson).

MakeMineATwin2 · 23/08/2018 05:45

Sorry to hear you've failed. If it's any consolation I failed for the exact same reason!

Definitely reebok if you can as by the time the next test comes around you would have got over the upset of the previous one.

Don't give up, I know someone who took 10 tests before passing and even then she just passed!

blamethecat · 23/08/2018 07:57

Oh what a shame barbra , fingers crossed for next time, hopefully you can take something from it just being that mistake at the end.
I just want to get mine over and done with, I wanted to be driving before summer holidays but it didn't happen and I feel guilty that has been stuck doing stuff locally as we can't just drive places.

BarbraDear · 23/08/2018 10:28

That's what I wanted too @blamethecat, I had my first test at the beginning of July and had plans for the summer instead of being stuck to whenever DP is off work.

Although I do feel having to wait til the youngest is at school will be better for me as I can use that time to go about on my own learning more and getting used to routes we will be taking often etc. So every cloud....!!

When is yours, blame? After the test is over I always think to myself 'why was I so nervous?' because it's half the time of a lesson and actually not too bad. If I can get that thinking down before the test next time I might do ok!

blamethecat · 23/08/2018 13:48

Not until November as it was the first one on my day off. I might try for a cancellation so it's before half term.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 23/08/2018 13:53

I took 7 so you can definitely get there!A different random major everytime.. And a couple of minors but the one I passed just thought sod this and all was fine.

Keep at it you've got this far :-)

mummytoc · 12/11/2018 06:27

Finally plucked up the courage to have another driving lesson With a new instructer today, an initial 2 hour lesson in the rain, have been swinging between being excited and almost cancelling due to nerves what’s wrong with me it’s only a lesson!!!! Sad

OP posts:
redrhubarb · 12/11/2018 07:32

It is only a lesson. Just think you are there to learn so you won't be a perfect driver. no one is!
I felt exactly the same but you will get there Smile

mummytoc · 12/11/2018 10:11

Thanks redrhubarb. I’m absolutely bricking it but know I’m being ridiculous!!

OP posts:
whynot93 · 12/11/2018 10:24

I was just like you once.. it took me years to pluck up the courage to learn to drive! That first lesson was very scary but I loved it. I just kept going week after week.. here I am now driving the kids all over the place. It's been life changing, more than I ever imagined and I'm so pleased I did it. Be strong and think of the fantastic benefits of having your own car and freedom 🙌
