Hi Everyone,
I'm new to mumsnet so forgive me if I don't use all the correct acronyms! I just wondered if anyone could offer me any advice or similar experiences??
I am mum to a wonderful little boy, he's 19 months. I am currently a midwife who works part time which equates to two 12.5 hour shifts a week, these could be days/nights/weekends etc etc as my rota is always changeable. I work in a lovely unit with a nice team. I was able to move to part time from full time after having my little boy and went back to work just before he was thirteen months old. I am extremely lucky as I know so many mums aren't able to take that full year.
An opportunity for a substantial promotion has developed for me over the past week at work. It would be based in the same unit but I am constantly ummming and ahhhing at the positives and negatives at applying for the position. The hours would be full time, Monday to Friday. A positive to this would be that I would would have all weekends off, bank holidays, national holidays and evenings off...the downside being my lack of time at home.
I'm really torn, I want to push myself harder in my career, I feel that's important to me, however I don't want to sacrifice on my time with my son and any future bubbas who may come along. My family is of paramount importance to me hence I'm struggling with the decision.
I am currently in discussion with my employer regarding potentially doing a four day condensed week to allow for one day off. My husband who owns a successful self employed business would also take a day off with our son therefore he would only go into nursery two-three days a week. He already does two.
Any advice/opinions/experience or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
A confused mummy. xxxx
