Dd told to urinate on seat on coach

Not sure if it's worth speaking to the school or not, but a few parents have said they would be fuming and I should do. Last week dds class went on school trip by coach. On the way back the coach took longer than anticipated due to traffic etc and there were no toilets on the coach. My dd wees a lot due to a few issues she has - anyway she was desperate for a wee the coach driver offered to pull over at next service and a dinner lady who was volunteering refused and said no she can wet herself and wee onto some kitchen towel. So my dd had to wee onto the seat and then spend the rest of the journey sat there on a wet seat. I only found out today what had happened as another volunteer has told me. Wwyd anything or nothing? I feel it's a bit grim to make a child wee on a seat and she feels pretty humiliated about the whole thing.

I would check with the school what actually happened.

dudsville · 09/07/2018 17:24

I'm really shocked to read this. Surely that's a sackable action?

gallicgirl · 09/07/2018 17:24

Yes, I'd definitely say something.

I could understand the reluctance to stop if it was just some child messing about but when it's a genuine medical issue, which I presume school are aware of, then allowances should be made.

I can barely believe you're hesitant about approaching the school about this!

LML83 · 09/07/2018 17:26

That is outrageous!!!! I would speak to the school.

If they were stuck in traffic or already very late they might say 'sorry we can't stop, try your very best to wait, if you don't manage don't worry I will sort it and make sure nobody else notices.' Even at this I wouldn't be pleased but would accept there wasn't much else they can do.

Glowbug59 · 09/07/2018 17:26

That’s awful. I’d definitely be speaking to the school. Poor girl

Halfblindbunny · 09/07/2018 17:26

No one would want a child to wee on a coach seat rather than pull into services. I would check with school. How did you not notice your kid getting off the bus wet and smelling of wee therefore having to fnd this information out from a volunteer today?

Yes I would be speaking to the school about it. How dare she humiliate a child like that when they could have pulled into a services. How old is your daughter?

GlitterGlue · 09/07/2018 17:29

The op has been around a good while. Unless they’ve been hacked...

" I only found out today what had happened as another volunteer has told me."

This doesn't add up. Weren't her clothes wet?

She wasn't the only one that needed a wee - there was another child that was crying all the way back wanting the toilet. It's all just quite undignified and grim the more I think about it. However, I don't want to kick up a fuss unnecessarily. I've asked another parent volunteer to see if they know what happened. I appreciate traffic delays are difficult and most parents said when we found out the timings, it was very unrealistic due to traffic. I'm just very Hmm at being told to wee onto kitchen towel on a coach.

That is awful I would definitely be making a complaint and demand to know exactly what happened and why the teacher would allow your dd to be humiliated like that. And also that must have been incredibly uncomfortable for her.

obviouslymarvellous · 09/07/2018 17:31

My dh collected last week and dd was very tired and said she had wet herself. I didn't make much of it tbh until I was told different today when said volunteer apologised.

Halfblindbunny · 09/07/2018 17:32

obviouslymarvellous can you confirm how you weren't aware your child had wet themselves until someone told you days after the event?

obviouslymarvellous · 09/07/2018 17:32

Naime- bore off believe what you will!

I don't thik it is an unnecessary fuss if that is what happened. I'm just struggling with the concept that you didn't know about this until today. Weren't your DD's clothes wet? Didn't she tell you herself what happened?

HeGotManFlu · 09/07/2018 17:34

Oh dear, another story about weewee. If it's true then obviously speak to school head, never heard of such a thing, I'm surprised the driver let this happen.

Dd often has accidents and I don't make a fuss as she gets upset. I didn't ask her until after school today when she said that's what had happened. She didn't volunteer the information she's 6 and quite behind if that makes any difference. She was wet on Friday and dh was told she had an accident so we never thought anything different until I was told today.
