In Manchester for a day with 8 & 10yo

DH has to go to Manchester for a day on summer hols to hand in uni work. We live 2 hours away. Thought we'd take the kids and do something different/interesting/fun. What is there to do? Science and transport museums I think?

MOSI is excellent yes. Can spend most of the day there and they put activities on in the holidays. Take a picnic. Food is lousy. Gift shop is great.

Go for nice food after. There is a teppanyaki grill across the road but not sure what time their first serving is. Chinatown would also be interesting place to eat and not too far to walk. My kids love yo sushi in the arndale centre.

The alternative is the Manchester museum. Natural history and Egyptology. Smaller than mosi but a fabulous place. I go there, eat lunch in cafe muse (get there early) and after seeing everything walk up to the whitworth art gallery for a run around and play in the park there. I also go in and get an art pack and let ds 1 and 2 make something. In the holidays they run kids craft workshops and other things. I dont rate wandering round the art with the dc as i dont get to appreciate it. It depends on the exhibitions which change regularly as the dc loved some of them (there was an exploded reconstructed expanded shed which was brilliant once).

Oooh that sounds good. I've found a treasure trail self guides spy walk that takes 1.5hrs. We could do that, then mosi, Chinese, home 🚉 thankyou
