Me and my husband keep talking about moving to Cheshire from Kent, has anyone made the move from south to north? We have a 2 year old and are doing it for affordable housing and change of lifestyle. If anyone has any tips or advice how they did it, it would be appreciated!

I moved from an expensive city to a cheaper one to be able to get better quality of life and get on housing ladder etc, but that was moving to Wales so not the same situation. What do you want advice on? Cheshire?

I have. From the bottom coast to near Cheshire. I regret it every day and wish I could go back. Also wish my children could grow up near the beach. Its cold and wet and horrible up here Flowers

Moved from Dorset to Yorkshire 25 years ago and never regretted it. Nowadays, with social media, it's easier than ever to keep in touch with people left behind, and it's worth moving away from the connurbations to get a better quality of life.

It's not all wasteland and roaming gangs of mutated zombies outside the South East!

We did, We are about an hour away from Cheshire, I like Cheshire, I wouldnt move back down south, I absolutely love it up here, no traffic jams and stunning countryside. I felt I needed to move as I craved for change. If you are close to family and friends you may struggle a bit.

Yep! I’m from Hertfordshire and my husband is from West Lancashire. We sold our flat in London & bought a lovely 4 bed detached house with huge garden that we would never be able to afford down south with barely any mortgage (my husband is a firefighter & I work pt so we don’t earn much)
The village community feel is lovely, we have husband’s family 10 mins away and we love it. Don’t regret it one bit.
The weather is annoying sometimes but my parents who now live in Norfolk have had a much worse summer that we have. It’s been so hot here. The winters are fairly mild too but not as dry as London.

I'm from Kent.
Moved North when I was 19 with DH.
Lived in Scotland for 13 years and have now been living in Yorkshire for the last 15.
Weather obviously a lot wetter and colder here but you adjust. I'd never go back now
