Second hand car - buyers wanting us to pay for repair!

We sold our 12 year old car a week ago. We made clear it had a certain problem and the price reflected it. Buyers didn’t test drive them self just let dh do it.

They drove back uninsured (claiming they would be fine on my insurance!!)

Vehicle still not taxed or insured.

2 days later they turn up on our doorstep saying they had looked underneath and there is serious problems with oil and the turbo . Turbo was making a funny noise - we had never heard it make a funny noise just an old turbo noise!
They said they would take it to the garage for a quote and we were very apologetic as we had no idea.

Get a message from her today wanting £1500 ! SHe listed a load of issues it has , none of which we were aware of! We got an MOT done just before we sold it to assure ourselves.

She hasn’t come back to me since i said we won’t be paying but I’m terrified they will turn up on our doorstep again. We don’t want the car back and don’t really want to give them any money!

Send them a polite message saying it was sold as seen. They should have gotten someone to look at it if there were possible problems before they paid. A 12 yr old car I doubt u sold it for much over 1.5k anyway? Crazy. I suppose they could try to take you to court but they'd have to prove that you knew it was so bad I think

I agree. They rang at 5, drive an hour and a half and purchased at 7.30. It was all very hasty. It was £2100 which was below market value apparently according to auto trader but we needed a quick sale and we knew one bit of work needed doing.

I feel stressed as they have already turned up at my house once unannounced. It’s very hard as the fiancé doesn’t speak English so there’s a communication barrier too.

Next time I’m going to part ex!!
