Can you appeal to local friends for unwanted cuddly toys so no cost to you but always popular?

Do a lucky dip bin/basket and put all sorts in: bag of sweets, can/bottle of drink, small toys etc. Charge to have a grab, prize every time.

Just ask around for an old tired bean bag and recycle the insides!

Hair bits and bows for they've always been really popular when our DC's school holds fetes.

Unusual stationary and note pads is something else that usually sells well and yo yo's and things like pick up sticks sets and small spinning tops have all become really popular again just lately.

What you describe sounds great. Run it as a tombola and the kids will keep coming back until they've spent all their money.
