Bed with a ladder and a slide - what age?

DS is desperate for a bed with a slide, he’s not even four yet!

I’m wondering what age I should tell him that he can have one, luckily he’s at waiting! I would say he is average at climbing and a little over adventurous.

Dc has had a midi sleeper since 2.5 (no slide) high sides so no accidental rolling off. It's no higher than they climb at the Park was my reasoning, plus has been shown how to get down safely. It's fine.

I've never liked the idea of them being in one. Ok when it's light and they are well... not so good in the dark when they want a wee. Definitely a bad idea if they are sick!

I would have got DS one at 3, they aren't very high. I think they get too tall for the slides at about 5 so don't wait too long.

I'd say from 5 upwards more because at their age a slide is way too much fun at bedtime!! Gees I'd be wAnting to have a go too lol.

I guess 5 for cognitive reasons and clearly understanding the bedtime boundaries and your sanity and probably from the safety aspect. At 5 they are a bit tougher from school.......and more tired!!

It is going to ultimately come down to how you feel whether they will understand the rules of when and how to use/not to use it. If you are confident they will be ok then do it but if you are not certain then maybe leave it till good old father C comes - least that buys you some growing up time?

At the end of the day a slide won't be addictive like a computer game or iPad but equally it's the night safety of it that would worry me most.

Whatever you choose I'm sure you will come to the right decision 😊mums know best. Good luck

We got DD one at 4.5

Thanks all. Think we’ll wait a bit. I don’t mind the sliding down a bedtime, he loves his sleep. It’s the safety factor that worries me.

I hadn’t even thought about the wee thing so thanks for that!

We were given one by a friend when my DS had just turned 4. He is really happy with it and has never slipped or fallen out. When he needs a wee in the night he can get down on his own in the dark and back up again. His bare feet stick to the slide and the ladder! It's a mid sleeper. Underneath he has his cars mat and toy garage. Good use of space in a small room.

I should add, my son is very good at bedtime and never messes with the slide. You could threaten to take it off if it is misused!
