I saw a 3' long grass snake yesterday. Shock
What interesting critters have crossed your path of late?

You're lucky. I've not seen a grass snake in years. How did you spot on that small?

Mine is: we have newts. DH built the pond last year. I was looking for frogs but found half a dozen wriggly newts swimming around. Love them. Also hoardes of beautiful red and blue dragonflies. Sometimes up to twenty or thirty at once.

It's my mission to find a hedgehog. Has been for years. We have loads of foxes and wild deer sauntering into our garden but I haven't seen a live hedgehog since childhood.

Local nature reserve seen a black mink and 2 blue king fishers flying at the same time and a dead badger

I regularly see herons and sometimes kingfishers near where I live. In Birmingham! By the canal. I've also seen a muntjac deer and badgers when driving home late at night.

I see a heron and deer near where I live too.
(London outskirts woods)
I’ve seen a hedgehog. It was so cute. It had got stuck in our shed which, unusually, had a catflap. The hedgehog had managed to get in but couldn’t get out.
We also get a woodpecker regularly in our garden. Plus lots of foxes but they’re just pain with their pooing everywhere.
I really want to see a wild owl.

I used to live somewhere else where I used to see deer and munkjac deer. There were several albino deer. I also heard the cuckoo and owls hooting

I spotted a mink in the stream know locally as Mucky Beck, which must mean there's something for it to eat in there now. A few years ago a man made it into the city's newspaper after he spotted a live fish swimming in it!

About 15 year ago I saw a big black puma type cat out in fields while I was driving. I was on the way to Eyemouth in broad daylight, nearly drove off the road watching it!!

We regularly have a hedgehog in our garden. We're on its foraging route. It made a little tunnel under the fence, which the neighbour and I are careful to keep clear. Very exciting to watch it getting bigger and bigger over the summer. Before the end of the summer it's big enough to trigger the sensors that switch on security lights. Doesn't bother Oggy, though!

Haven't seen Oggy in a few weeks. Perhaps it's gone into hibernation.

We used to have an Outdoorsy Shite thread. This is much more grown up.
