Someone of sick getting drunk.

I work at a local social club, there are only 4 members of staff plus the club steward so any time someone is off sick or holidays we have to cover those shifts. On Friday the club steward handed a self certificate in for 7 days.( I don't know the reason he has given) I only found out on Saturday morning he had done this.
My problem is that on Friday evening my DH and me plus 2 other people were at a local pub and this club steward was in there and was steaming drunk someone said he'd been in since 2pm. As he was leaving he shouted to his mates, I'll see you all tomorrow. Now do I keep mum or should I tell the management committee. To me this is not fair as the other staff and I have to cover his shifts.(he is the only full time staff)

Depends why he's off sick.

If it's a mental illness, or he has a bad back or something, it means he's not fit to work, but not unfit to drink with his mates.

As you say, you don't know the reason. All you can do is give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would say nothing.
