Godfather will question

My husbands Godfather died last year suddenly, my husband was extremely close to him and is very upset still. He was estranged from his wife, but still very friendly with her and was actually staying with her, when he died. They had been separated for over 15 years.

His will was written in 1982, when they were together it left everything to his wife, he was quite wealthy, she in her own right more so. The will stated that if she died before him, then everything should go to my husband. Now my husband was only 10 when the will was written. His wife has said she was surprised she was left anything and as she is in her early eighties, doesn’t need it anyway. Now I know my husband has no right and doesn’t expect her to change the will, but would you give anything to my husband, in that position. I’m torn between saying yes and thinking, if he wanted him to have it, he would.
But on the other hand, my husband was only 10 when the will was written and his Godfather was still living with his wife. What would you do?

If his wife want to gift something to your DH out of her own free will (I think that's what you are saying), then why not say yes?

NB If she dies within 7 years there may be IHT implications depending on size of her estate (unless she does deed of variation on god father's will).

If he wanted him to have it wouldn't have last updated in the 80 only thing u can is u speak to her see if she remembers him say this maybe she give him something or then he can contest the will it's done in 80 they were seperated 13 years he never got to change it he died but either way it's frowned upon he does sound like it's all about money yeah sometimes were promised things and u think u will get it but u didn't are you really going to take money from an 80 year old ask her to leave u it in her will does she have any family if any 9r says to get it needs to be u not ure husband as it's not direct
