URGENT HELP NEEDED

Basically I have had a message this morning from a friend accusing me of making a fake account up to inbox them a nasty message, I NEVER DID THIS, they went on to tell me they contacted Facebook and Facebook said that the person who sent the message there ip is the same as Mine and they told her my name, I asked for proof and they told me they deleted this. I always thought Facebook couldn't give information like that out unless giving a court order to do so and go through the police. I want to know is this is possible or she is lying, cause i am so angry right now and if facebook did do this could I sue them for data breaches

Sounds to me like she’s lying. Why would she delete the message from them about it? She probably just thinks it was you and is trying to catch you out by making you own up. I also doubt FB would be handing out people’s IP addresses and names

Beaverhausen · 10/05/2018 10:25

It is bs firstly Facebook always advice them to just block and move on.

Secondly they can only provide that info if requested by the police.

And nobody us going to delete an email that proves he guilt of someone they are accusing.

MarthaArthur · 10/05/2018 10:26

Yeah no way is this true. When you report to facebook you can only use the buttons then they send you an automated response either saying it didnt break guidlines or it was in violation of standards. No way does facebook ever send personal replies with that info in it. And your "friend" just happened to delete it huh?

Caselgarcia · 10/05/2018 10:26

'Friend' is telling porkies

WhereIsThisGoing · 10/05/2018 10:28

Facebook might delete or suspend a fake profile in response but would never give out names/IP addresses. That is something law enforcement can only dream of. Definitely not true

luckiestgirl · 10/05/2018 10:30

I’d just say “well, it wasn’t me so it must just be a scam or something. Oh well. Anyway, how are you doing? Etc etc”
This wouldn’t make me angry. I don’t allow drama in my life.

SilverHairedCat · 10/05/2018 10:33

Utter bollocks. Facebook are a PITA for even the police to get that information out of, so they are lying about that part.

Sounds like they have a grievance wider than this made up profile.

Facebookhelpxx · 10/05/2018 11:07

Thank you so much

One last thing If they tried to get the Police involved would the police get involed, All that was said was about her she daughter is being controlled by her husband and hes got controlling issues, would this be enough for police to get involed in and for them to get facebook to share the data

So was it you that sent those messages from the fake account then?
And I’m sure the police have better things to be doing with their time then dealing with a message like that

Facebookhelpxx · 10/05/2018 11:10

No Forsty But I would love if they could so I could find out who it was

Police hate getting involved in Facebook shite like this, so unless it falls into the realms of stalking, threatening people or domestic abuse then they'll try to avoid it like the plague.

Block the "friend" after you've told them they're lying and avoid the Jeremy Kyle drama.

ElideLochan · 11/11/2018 20:14

Yeah, she's talking bollocks

ElideLochan · 11/11/2018 20:15

Oh bugger, does 6 months count as a zombie????

Oh well, op, what was the outcome?
