Hello mumsnet, I need some opinions/advice regarding my current employment situation.

Background information - I work for a small local business (who have a bad reputation in my field locally, I wish I’d listened to friends advice before joining). I am middle management, senior management and the company director are extremely unprofessional and will only follow professional protocol if beneficial to them. An example of this is a member of staff received a disciplinary due to minor bitching about a senior manager, however senior management and the company director post passasive aggressive memes on the company’s private Facebook staff group regarding staff members and will happy gossip about staff all day.

I am currently signed off sick (won’t put dates or what with due to being outing) however I feel unable to return to work due to an unprofessional comment made by my manager in relation to my illness(again too outing if I say).

My fit note is due to run out soon however the doctor will most likely have no problem in signing me off for longer.

Here’s my WWYD, before being signed off sick I had began looking at other jobs due to hating it there. Recently I have began to feel slightly better and have started my job search again. Should I hand my notice in now with my current employer, continue claiming SSP until offered a new job or put on a brave face and go back to work? (emotionally I don’t feel able to do so and would like a clean break with no reminders of my illness which there will be if I return to work).

If it's detrimental to your mental health, I wouldn't go back. Good luck with the job search!

Thank you! The job alone is quite stressful let alone with how I’m feeling right now related to my illness. I have a few interviews next week for part time (I really don’t feel ready for full time) roles so fingers crossed I get something.
