Does anyone know when facebooks picks up your location? Is it so often or when there is certain activity on your device.

If you have location enabled in your settings and have your location access on your phone it will pick it up

Yes I understand that but with the times - it says that someone was at x location 1 hour ago and then 'just now' so how often does it update. Other people it seems to be longer so '14 hours ago' etc.

Okay so It's trying to let you know if people you're friends with (or perhaps aren't!) are nearby where you are near or have been?

I understand that... the thing I am confused with is how it updates the location so say I have two friends, friend A I know hasnt left their house all day but it regularly updates the location at time i.e. 'just now' '30mins ago' back to '1 min ago'

I then have friend B who I know has left the house and goes to work but their last known location is their home location '14 hours ago' when they have been out of the house for the last 8 hours.

Do you need a facebook notifcation being recieved to update the location or can a general text message being recieved do it? I know this works by allowing the location to run in the background but I don't understand why not everyone's updates. I don't have any reason for this, it is just something I have noticed recently.
